Hey guys... not much of an SEO enthusiast but I was just wondering how hard it would be or how long it would take to get to the top of Google with a search term that as 111,000 competing sites for the keyword I want to use?

I mean, 111,000 does not seem like a lot when there are terms out there with millions of competing sites. Am I incorrect in assuming this or no?

    Thanks...
    BRH

Forgot to mention, this is on a NEW Site (about a month old)

It is not just the number of competing sites that matters, it is the quality of the competing sites.

I would even say that ONLY the competing sites matters.

    Ok, lemme rephrase the question...
Is it possible within a few days time to get to the top of 111,000 sites with some good Black/White Hat SEO Techniques in google?

    and the competition is low
with about 111,000 sites I bet 90 percents are filler sites and the competitoin is only between the first 5 pages

so you can see what your competition is and make a guess off of that

I have a half year old website, started to promote it a month ago. I had 4 backlinks from spun content (none shows in Google), and after 2 weeks I was on the first page for a term with 160000 competing sites. The competition is pretty strong, in the top10 there are 1 PR2, 1 PR3, 3 PR4, 2 PR5 sites. Make sure your on-site SEO is really good. Then it shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, you should research on your competition. Check their backlinks/anchor text for that page result to see if they have any or using that keyword as an anchor text.

Are there 111k exact phrase matches (i.e "keyword" in google search) or are these just the standard search results from typing the word in the search box?

Anything under 50k exact phrase matches is pretty darn easy to get on the first page or close to (depending on competition of course).

Generally speaking it would not be that hard, but within a few days is questionable based on where your site ends up in the big G's algorhythm update process.

My suggestion to do this (if you are looking to keep this site up there long term) would be to only build 15-30 QUALITY RELEVANT 1-Way backlinks per month using variations of the primary keyword. After a month or two then you can add it some blackhat (just don't overdue it). However, if you are looking for short term results on the first page then I'm sure many here can give you the quick and dirty way to do it....just don't expect it to last without continual work.

Like kboxer7 says you need to see who the competition is with "exact phrase" matches. Then see who's using the keyword in the beginning of their title tag and if it's used early in the first paragraph of page content.

Onpage SEO is really necessary early on with only a few backlinks, but adding a few backlinks every couple weeks should get you to the top keep you there. With only 111k searches (especially broad match), it won't be hard to take the top spot.

It is possible but it's highly unlikely that you would be able to do it considering that you are asking the question (in 1 day). Only a SEO master like me would be able to do something like that :D. But even 1 day's time is really harsh.

I started working for a client about 1 month ago in a niche that returned 97,000 results in big g. The website looked great and the company was well established (25years). They were no-where in the ranking for the keywords.

One month later they are on first page mid position for 3 of the keywords and second and third pages for another 7 keywords.

I have not done anything I would consider BH.

I have basically updated the meta and content of the website so it is full of keywords and build backlinks through article submissions, social bookmarking, Angela style profiles and manually contacting organisations and businesses in my clients niche and asking for links (got 2x PR5 links this way!)

I have also applied for DMOZ listing but not holding my breath on that one. I have not yet submitted the site to Yahoo Directory but only because they are having problems with credit card transactions at the moment.

I have used a couple of services here on BH to help me build links and have a further 3000 slow submissions that are on-going and will be completed in the next 70 days.

I know its not worth much but my client is ranking No1 on Yahoo for the 2 main keywords.

    Hope this helps.

Awesome... for the phrase in quotes, there are only 29K results, the 111K was for no quotes. Only 1 PR2, 2 PR1s and the rest are not even ranked on the first page, both quotes and loose phrase.
The continual work is not a problem at all as I plan on going at this long term, as it is not a short term business.

Thank you very much, as your response was very helpful.

Your best bet is to find an aged domain that preferably is keyword reach and you should be able to do it

Oh, one other thing.... Keyword Density... What's a good number to shoot for? Currently I have like 3.20% keyword Density for the keyword phrase I am looking to gun at, is that adequate or should it be higher?
