I assume we have seen this blog and video? http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.ie/2012/10/a-new-tool-to-disavow-links.html

Has anyone made use of this tool and under what circumstances?

I recently got a fiverr gig done. A few days after I ordered it my website fell down from 1st page to 5th. Its back on 3rd now two days after but I'm wondering whether it would be a good idea to disavow those links. The gig delivered something entirely different from what I asked it for so that's really annoying. Mostly wiki backlinks with badly spun giberish articles. About 50 thousand of them most either pointing to my money site or tear two backlinks. The site might be dancing but I have never seen my site drop in rank after getting a gig.

I haven't received an email from google about bad links or anything and webmaster tools has registered jut 1700 links.

Has anyone ever received an email?

    Any thoughts?

If you did not receive an email from Google you should be okay (providing you have your website tracked by google webmaster tools/analytics). Here are some of my quick notes on the topic:

"Did you receive a notice from Google, telling you about bad, unnatural, or artificial links in your GoogleWebmaster Tools' inbox? If so, there is an additional step. Youmust request reconsideration. This notifies the manual review team tolook at your site and backlink profile. You will find a link to thereconsideration request in the message from Google."

You could also just make a file and block a few links just to get an idea of how the process works and to get the train in motion for when you do get the email and really need to get rid of some links.
