I currently have a list of around 1500 people, but I make no money off it. It's just a quick opt in before I give them a link to a product, then a follow up email where I remind them to get the product if they haven't already. I'm looking for advice on how to turn this around, because everday I get more opt ins but I feel like I'm nowhere near getting the full potential out of the list.

So hard but so easy..why they should buy your product? Do you tell them that? Products are pain solvers, sometimes customers don't even know about their pain, you gotta tell them.Tell them about all the problems they have without your product, make them worry, actually make it like the end of the world..then, bam, your savior is here, take this magic pill and everything will be like in heaven. So sad you have just so few of these pills, they should hurry and grab the pill NOW.
I made it a bit fantastic but that's what I think you're missing there.

The first step from, my experience, is to sell without selling. What do I mean by that? People like to buy things, but no one likes to be "SOLD". As the member above stated (@Larry Igna ) you have to often show, tell and explain to the customers why you are solving aa problem for them. You got to find what are thee reasons people use "X" product, then come up with a way, maybe in a blog post or video, to demonstrate this problem and how it effects them. Follow through with showing them how your solution works, and then give them a call to action that builds "urgency" to buy the product.

Those are some basics to start with. Its the Who, what, when and where of sales.

There's another important thing to add here: why they opted in? If they were promised shoes, you can't sell them carburetors for their cars.Segment the list based on what they've choose initially.
Also, a good tactic to use is to sell a 1 dollar product first, even if for that you would need to undervalue that product and it might seem you would lose money. This works best when you have your own product but with a few twists can be done with affiliate products as well.Just make sure it adds immediate value to your clients. This is the most important part.
There is a reason to sell the low price product. It transforms your subscribers into clients. And who trusted you to buy once, will buy again. You can do upsells and cross-sells right away, providing even more value for them and adjusting the profits for you.
That's more "marketing" than "email marketing" but I hope it helps.

You have to make the customer see just what it will do and exactly what each one of its advantages means to him. If you did you wouldn't have to sell it, it would sell itself.
