It looks like getting a news website listed on Google News is in demand this 2017. I've been getting inquiries about the frequency of writing news articles and how to get listed on Google News each week. The technical guidelines are already posted online. But to make it easy for everyone, here's a summary of what you need to prepare BEFORE you submit your news website to the Google News (GN) Team.

    General Guidelines to Follow:

    · Readability – The articles must be free from spelling and grammar error

    · News Content Covering Recent Events – Articles must be timely and event-related

    · Original Content – Articles must be originally written and not drawn from other sources

    · Misrepresentative Site – Your site must be legitimate

    · Accountability and Transparency – You must take responsibility and accountability for what you’ve published

    Technical Guidelines to Comply:

    · Article Formatting - Contents should only be in HTML format

    · Multimedia Content – Google is unable to include multimedia content but they sometimes include contents with videos from YouTube

    · Article URL – It must be descriptive of the article

    · Article Link – Google only crawls HTML links. Avoid Javascript, graphic links or links in frames

    · Robots.txt or Metatags – Your domain must be accessible to search engine bots

    · Submit a Google News Sitemap – For Search engines to easily crawl and index newly posted news articles from your site

In addition to these bullet points, please know that you’ve got to strictly and consistently write news-worthy articles every day for 30 to 45 days before you submit your website to GN. That's not written on GN's requirements but based on my experience working with clients who own GN-approved news websites, that's what I've noticed.

I hope you'll find this list useful. If you have questions, especially about news writing (it's my forte), feel free to ask. Cheers!

LOL. Feel free to ask about this topic. I'm here to share the things I know (no matter how little or small) about Google News, especially to those who are clueless on where or how to start. :)

I'd like to add that when you hire a news writer, make sure that you're using multiple author profiles. In other words, even if you're outsourcing your daily news writing needs to just one writer, you cannot post all of those news articles under one author's biography. Create a page called "Our Team" or simply "Team". That's where you publish your authors' profiles. It is one of the requirements by the Google News team.

I am aware that Google News does not specify the reason for rejection. Do you have a hunch on why your submission is rejected?

Two questions, if you don't mind.

    1. How strict is Google when it comes to the multiple author rule? I'm confident I can pass the rest of their qualifications, but I'm a one-man team.

    2. Assuming I'd have to forge multiple authors to get listed, how unique must they be? Let's say I wrote under different names, yet changed nothing about my writing style . . . would they catch on?

    Thanks.

Hi, @Jxxxxx. I'm more than happy to share with you what I know about the things you've asked.

    1. Google News requires a dedicated authors' page. WhiIe an experienced writer can manage to re-write 5 to 10 x 400-word news articles per day, it's not common for one legitimate news website to just have one writer who cranks up 5 to 10 articles per day. Some create fictitious or make-believe author profiles to satisfy GN's requirement on this.

    2. The Google News team cares less about the writing style. You won't be dinged on that.

    Regards,

    ContentWriter

I just had a conversation with a fellow BHW member who has a Google News website.

I'd like to add that the images you will use must be royalty-free. The videos that you will insert must be your own.

You can't just pick some random images from Google Images or videos from YouTube. Otherwise, you're setting your site up for a disapproval from the Google News team.

Here's the verbatim from Google News Publisher Help:
"Original & unique. All the content included in your videos, such as music, images, and text, should be your own or used with permission. Google respects copyrights and follows the DMCA guidelines for handling disputed copyrighted material."

I hope this additional information helps.

    Regards,

    ContentWriter

Thanks for the all the tips!

    1. What is the minimum articles per day you should shoot for?
    2. Word count on each article?
    3. Regarding original content; can this be a complete rewrite of other news articles?

You're welcome, @randybishop. Here are my answers to your questions.

    1. What is the minimum articles per day you should shoot for?
Answer: In the first two weeks, I suggest you publish 1 news article per day per category. Most news websites have 9 categories.

    2. Word count on each article?
Answer: 400 to 500 words per news is recommended.

    3. Regarding original content; can this be a complete rewrite of other news articles?
Answer: News rewrites are fine but make sure you're rewriting trending or breaking news.

    Thanks for that contentwriter.

Regarding content that Google News accepts, can it have any opinion on the news event or does it need to be unbiased news?

Hi, @randybishop. News articles must be objective in tone. If it's an opinionated article, it's not a news article but a blog post. In the Technical Guideline provided by Google News, it states that we need to separate news articles from blog posts or opinionated articles.
