Aren't you tired of browsing social bookmark sites list given by other people? why not find them on your own.

I know some people might already know how, and I also know lots of people might want to kill me for this.
I've been doing social bookmarking service so I know this works for me, give it a try.

So here's how you can find social bookmarking sites from search engines:

    Know the Platforms

There are three major social bookmark platforms that I know of, pligg, scuttle/scuttlePlus, and PHPDug.
Once you know these then finding the sites is peace of cake.

    Basic Search

This is the most common way to search for social bookmarking sites. Just type in:

    "Powered by ....."

Replace the .... with the platform:
    HTML:
    "Powered by pligg"
    "Powered by scuttle"
    "Powered by scuttlePlus"
    "Powered by PHPDug"
The reason to do this is because by default all platforms have those signatures in their products.
You can find usually at the bottom of social bookmarking sites.

This method can also be used to find forums.

    Advanced Search

Now I said the platforms are by default have those signatures, but what if the social bookmark sites' owners decided to remove them?
They will actually, most of the sites that you can find using the above method would be sites with lower PR, most is 3 or even 4.

This is how you find sites from "more serious" owners and the chance to get higher PR social bookmark sites,
You need to identify a unique url in each platform, for example:

In Pligg, they have a function for searching stories, they use the following url:
    HTML:
    hxxp://socialbookmarksite.com/shakeit.php
Then you would use it in search engines like this:

    HTML:
    inurl:/shakeit.php
    Other examples:

    PHPDug:
    HTML:
    inurl:/upcoming/0/viewall/1.html
    Scuttle:
    HTML:
    inurl:/populartags/
Play around with the methods, you can collect as many social bookmarking sites that you want.
The methods work for just about anything with similar platforms.

    Suggestions

You can use any search engines for this, but I prefer yahoo instead of google.
Google can stop your search with a reason that your search is similar to how hackers/viruses work.

Use pagerank and/or ******** tools like firefox addon searchstatus to help you in your search.
If you just want to collect the sites just do it, check the PR later with digixmas' pagerank tool (bulk pagerank check).

If you have other suggestions on searching social bookmarking sites, please share here.

Hope this can help you, if it does, a simple click of thanks button is highly appreciated.

    Cheers

    No problem,

I browsed a little just now to find "social network platform" and found ning, elgg, onesite and buddypress.
Find the sites that are using those platform, see what they have in common.
Use it to find other sites.

Haven't got the time to browse but will update on this thread later.

Updates on finding social networking sites:

Okay I've searched for the social network platforms and found:

    onesite:

Onesite has a unique url which uses .one extension so you can find social sites based on onesite using:

    Code:
    inurl:/tools/quicklogin.one
    Code:
    inurl:/browse.one
    elgg:

Some elgg sites still use "Powered by Elgg" signatures so easy to find.
    Elgg also uses unique url.

    Code:
    /go/browse/blogs
    Code:
    "powered by elgg"
    insoshi:
    Code:
    inurl:/password_reminders/new
    buddypress:

buddypress integrates with wordpress to build social network sites, so it's hard to find the unique url for buddypress.

I'm providing the information not for spamming, find the sites that you like and be social there.

WTF, the guy instantly PMed me and told me he got this from other blog

    Then he said:

Don't think there's a newsletter that can support bbcode.

Anyway I know I can't claim the method is mine, but at least I can get a credit of it right?

Another tips on looking for sites for your SEO campaign,

well this one is for video sharing sites, but I'll share it anyway.

    Find Video Sharing Sites:

Again this is the platforms for video sharing sites:
    iVidPlay
    and
    MediaShare

So you can use the following to search for the sites:
    Code:
    "Powered By iVidPlay"
    Code:
    "Powered By MediaShare"
I'm guessing that these sites are brand new so you might not get high PR sites, but give them a time to raise PR.
If the code are not satisfying your search, look for the unique url on those platforms and use it on search engines.

Oh, in case someone decided to use the post on other sites/forums again

You may post these again but spare your time a little just to notify me, I don't give a shit if you post these again to get thanks or +rep
