Some of you know me on here for doing e-commerce. My goal is to create hundreds of e-commerce sites all targeting specific niches.

Anyways, I had one site which was completely sandboxed for 3 months. Mainly because I started blasting it with about 30k web 2.0s right out the gate. All shitty content and spun garbage.

I thought for sure the site was gone for good but I still kept on building links. Still building highly spun but scraped as well.

3 months later after I had almost completly given up, the site jumped to 1st page for almost all main keywords and currently on 3-5th page for 30,000 exacts. I was getting two hits a day just two days ago.

I also blasted with wiki and scrapebox with thousands of comments. Here is the thing though. I didn't even target my main keywords at all.

My approach was to load up all long tail keywords and main keywords and just blast like they were the same in weight. On page was good content and optimized, but I didn't even worry about which keyword I was targeting. I also used many random "click here's" and naked URLs.

All sites that I have done this have not been hit. Yes, it takes longer.

My take away from this is that it is all keyword related penalties. The only site that did get hit of mine was like 60% main keyword. Start thinking 5% main keyword and you should be good.

Thanks. Sorry I am a little unorganized. Hope this helped someone.

interesting. I have 3 sandboxed sites and just havent had the balls to keep backlinking since they are adsense sites, I am scared of getting my adsense banned if I continue. I guess I will take adsense off them, and blast away.

P.S. all my sites that got snadboxed, were heavily backlinked with 1 KW

I appreciate the time you spent sharing your experience with us. Everything helps!

Just curious, you said you were only getting a couple hits a day two days ago. What's your traffic like now?

+1. I'm interested in knowing this as well.

Interesting study, nonetheless. I've made things too complex for myself, it seems. I've been trying out a ton of different things on different sites. Thanks for sharing; I'm putting this in action. :D

The niche I am targeting is a pretty competitive niche but I am looking at probably 100 hits a day real soon. The thing is all my real main keywords are literally 1-2 months of work away. They weren't even in top 500 2 days ago.

I actually started scrapeboxing the site thinking it wasn't going to ever come back. But i did so with so many random anchors.

I also am ranking double listings and pages that I didn't build backlinks are ranking first page for keywords which is also random. I wasn't even ranking for my domain keyword 2 days ago as well.

Hey Dan, very happy that your site is getting traffic again. I have some questions:

    1. Do you know the exact date the site dropped? And do you know the exact date the site came back?
    2. Did you change the on-site at all?

Also, its worth noting that maybe you just had a 3 month penalty placed by google. This has happened to me before as well... You may think that the backlinks is what did the trick, but it could always be that the penalty expired. For example: This image is for one of my old websites. Look how it hit the 90 day mark, and as soon as it did, it popped back up.

    Let me know thanks!

I am not disagreeing i think there is a 3 month or so penalty and I can confirm this as well. But many sites don't come out of it after 3 months. I don't have experience there but maybe because they stop blasting or just ditch the site or just stat xrummering it I don't know.

Have you had any sites stay in longer then 3 months?

Did you do any link building while the penalty was in place. I have a site that dropped on 25/4/12 and im still deciding what to do with it.

I've never had a site sandboxed, but I probably would have tried the same thing. I would follow that same strategy of continuing to build links, increase the diversity of the links and anchors, and maintain the same pace.

You are absolutely right. This is all about anchor text over-optimization. I see now that the on-page should tell Google what you want to rank for. The backlinks should just juice you up. I'm not touching my money keyword with backlinks at all anymore for all of my sites that tanked. They should be fixed eventually.

I dont have many sites, but the example above came out in 3 months. I have 1 site thats penalized now, and its at the 2 month mark. So hopefully in a couple of weeks it should pop back out.

No, I left it alone completely. Then to my surprise I noticed the traffic coming in.

They did get unnatural links message, and the site is still penalized. Although, it just recently got its sitelinks which is kinda weird.
