Hello, I wanted to post on both black hat and white hat but thought I'd start here since black hat comes first on the forum page.

I recently acquired an old domain name that has over 40 backlinks from huffington post (yes it's from one of the services here). And the backlink is pretty clean. My website is about a month old and has about 25 articles (unique, min400 words) and article count will continue to grow. I'll have about 150 articles in 6months.

My question is how do I actually begin to get ranked? Do I ping the huffingtonpost backlinks? Do I see what the topic is about on those links and write articles relating to it?

The subjects aren't entirely related to my niche but all the anchor text is my domain name.

Of course I want to get ranked to get traffic. I was thinking of using keyword planner and searching for keywords relevant to my niche with 400-800 monthly searches. If I have 100+ articles each targeting low volume kw's like that I should rank easier and at the same time significantly increase my traffic.

What say you BHW? You're much more knowledgeable than I am

There are different strategies to promote, it depends on the niche that you are writing articles. Instead of posting more articles, do some research and find low competitive keywords, write min. 1000+ words on those keyword along with some longtail keywords. Some of these pages will rank well without any link building for long tails. Initially try to get some traffic for these low comp. kwds and slowly you can increase to publish more articles.

    Thanks!
The niche deals with social issues like bullying, shyness, social anxiety etc... it's a magazine site that people can come visit and read about.
I'll keep in mind to write 1000+ word articles. But is there anything I should be doing with those huffpost backlinks or just leave it? I haven't really been ranked for anything yet

You leave those backlinks as they are to your main url. Just concentrate on your site content and try to get links to your new pages.
