    Hey all,

    I hope you're well.

I'm fairly new to SEO/ Guest posting. I've been learning a lot through books and this forum, but want to expand my knowledge.

So far, in about 6-8 weeks, I've done about 10-15 guest posts with links on various sites. Things are going well, I can see my DR increasing. But I want to make this more optimal and efficient.

How do I know if a site is worthy of a Guest post? I'm not going to lie, currently, I've just been doing a scattergun approaching and getting as many as I can as time and money allows, as I'm writing the posts myself also.

Are there certain metrics in Ahrefs/ anywhere else you use before you decide if you want to post on that site? I read somewhere about tier 1 traffic, and 100k traffic, etc, but what exactly would you look for?

I'm thinking, if I spend more time on better quality content for more relevant sites, it'll be better and more efficient than what I'm doing now.

    Thanks in advance,
    Ravi.

Check the referring domains and anchors too.

I was looking at some sites the other day for a case study, super powerful metrics on the face of it, but 3 of the anchors were related to buying viagra, escort services and keto.

Traffic value is useless metric for outreach tbh. Just check for what the website rank (ideally will rank for something close to your niche).

Sorry, can you explain this further? How do you check website rank, and how do you check if it's close to your niche?

I get it. I'm asking how do you check website rank?

    Thanks, Ravi.

Just click "Organic keywords" in Ahrefs and will see for what the website is ranking. Generally with some creativity you can link everything from everywhere, however I prefer to stay away from websites that ranks for movie streaming, torrents, cracks and downloads and so on, despite how good their links are (they are good only if the domain is reused anyway, NW times is not linking to "top 10 torrents" articles), and what traffic they have.

Check its DR on Ahrefs, DA on Moz, and traffic. It’s also great if they have a large social media following.

Speaking of DR, another related question. Why does my DR keep changing? I'm a new site, and I know DR isn't the be all and end all, just curious. Was 10, then 9, now 8. I'm building more and more links (although these aren't showing currently). But it's still reducing...

Hm, it could be a number of things. Maybe those links haven’t been indexed yet. Still, the first thing that comes to mind is the link quality. Are those backlinks from reliable sources and websites with good ranking?
If the links are OK, I wouldn’t worry too much. Since your website is new, perhaps it will take a bit longer until your DR stabilizes.

May be you bought some links from some pbn. And as time goes by, the article is not on the homepage anymore so you are losing some juice...

I appreciate all the answers above. I've seen pbn a few times, what exactly is this?

I understand, makes sense. It's now gone back to 10, lol.

Don't trust metrics they are easily manipulable.

I look for a relevant website on a relevant page that has relevant links to my topic. Relevance trumps power in my opinion . If I can get a highly relevant post link that has lesser metrics I will take that any day of the week to high metrics on a non-relevant website/page. But depending on my comps profile I will see what they are doing to win and match there efforts link for link anchor for anchor.

the only metric you need to check out (in most cases) it's the "Organic keywords". Any site that has over 1000 ranking keywords it's an ok website. The bigger the number, the better the site.
The other metrics are for differentiation between similar sites.
