Guest Posting – DR vs Organic Traffic, Which One is More Valuable?

Only an idiot gonna look at DR nowadays. That's just an estimate from an external tool, which is easy to manipulate with low investments. In our team, we don't look at DR at all since 2022.

Interesting topic! From my experience, I’ve tested both sides – high DR with low traffic and mid-DR with strong organic traffic.

  • High DR, low traffic sites: These can still pass authority (especially if niche-relevant), but often the impact is more short-term. Sometimes these links feel a bit “inflated” if the site doesn’t rank for much itself.
  • Medium DR, high traffic sites: These usually bring better long-term SEO value because Google already trusts the site enough to send it traffic. Even if DR is lower, the fact that the site ranks and gets clicks shows it has real authority.

Personally, I prioritize organic traffic + niche relevance first, and then use DR/DA as a supporting metric. A DR 50 site with 50K monthly visits in my niche has always given me more movement than a DR 70 ghost site.

That said, having a mix of both in your link profile is safest. High DR can help with authority “signals,” and real traffic sites give sustainable ranking power.

Curious to see if anyone here has case studies that compare the two directly.”

Guest Posting – DR vs Organic Traffic, Which One is More Valuable?

Hello BHW Members,

I’ve been researching and working on guest posting recently, and I noticed that most people focus either on high DR sites or on real organic traffic sites.

For example:

  • A DR 70 site with very little traffic (maybe 1K/month)
    vs.
  • A DR 50 site with strong traffic (like 50K/month)

In your experience, which one gives better SEO results and rankings in the long term?

Do you think metrics (DA/DR) are more important, or is real organic traffic the main factor for a powerful backlink?

I would really appreciate hearing your thoughts, case studies, or any personal experiences.

Thanks in advance!
From my experience, real organic traffic beats high DR with no traffic almost every time. A DR 70 site with 1K traffic usually means it’s propped up by backlinks but not trusted enough by Google to rank.
