TL;DR: Send follow up email to all leads who haven't replied to you or who have delayed in replying.

If you're trying to sell anything and your client/lead hasn't responded, send them a follow up email a few days later. For some of my money sites where we sell services, we definitely pick up a substantial amount more business by sending follow up emails (from scripts) to clients who haven't replied for a few days.

On a related note, was looking at an email from some SEO person. Got some emails from one of many people asking for guest posts on one of my money sites.

    Email #1

    Hello there,

My name is John Hawthorne and I just noticed that on [my URL] you are currently linking to this page found here [link to the page I'm linking to]. I recently wrote an article on a topic that I think you will find interesting and had it published at [his URL]

I was wondering if you would like to use my article as a reference as I believe it is a decent article to use as a resource.
I Added a lot of studies and references, included humor and images as well I think really filled it out.

If this sounds good please let me know If you wanted too you could republish it as well.

    Thank you,

    John.

    I never responded to him.

    FIVE DAYS LATER

    Hello again,

I just wanted to follow up on my previous e-mail regarding my article. If you just had a chance to take a look at the article I wrote it would be great if you could let me know what you think of it.

    Cheers,

    John.

Still haven't responded to him, but seeing a reminder email made me consider it. Almost no one sends a follow up email. You'll get a better conversion rate sending 30 emails + 30 follow up emails to 30 leads than sending 60 emails and no follow ups to 60 leads. The point is that you should follow up with leads because:
    1. It makes sure they know you're not a robot
    2. It reminds them to buy
    3. You will make a bunch of money and won't miss out on easy leads/sales

Say whatever ya'll want. I'm just chilling with my extra ~5K per month from sending follow up emails (slash having my admin assistant send them).

Thanks for sharing! I can see different scenarios where this would be extremely useful and probably land you a sale (or whatever you're trying to accomplish) from the follow-up.

This is not ground breaking; actually many outreach tools including Gmass and Buzzstream have this feature built-in and you can set it up to automatically email people 2, 3 or even 4 times if they don't respond initially... but at that point it becomes harassment imo

For me the second email is harassment; if I don't respond to someone its done on purpose, because I don't want to. If they will email me as a "follow up" I may lose it and find out their contact info and call them on the phone and give them a piece of mind.

It depends on my mood but if I'm in a bad mood something like this would really drive me up the wall and make me seriously lose it and I mean LOSE IT. (I mean if someone were to follow up).

I understand the importance of following up but be carefully because some people will explode and lose it and spam you right back.

Also, a lot of times when people don't respond it's because they aren't interested or they don't like your writing and can't be bothered to tell you so. Following up isn't going to change that.

However, from a pure metrics pov following up will yield better results but you can also expect to be cursed out, tracked, have people find your linkedin/phone number and tell you to leave them alone.
