I've been using GSA to rank for a few keywords I already rank #1 for, just to see if its possible to outrank my other site.

My other site I used high pr links to rank and its holding firmly at #1 for various different keywords.

But for 2 weeks now, the site I'm blasting with GSA is stuck at #6 and it seems like it doesn't want to go any higher.
With high pr links this was never an issue. Rankings would slow down towards the end but the site still acted like a "tank".
It would eventually plow through all the other sites till it hit #1.

I'm curious if I should start filtering my campaigns for pr / obl?

I'm also curious how many people have ranked local sites #1 with GSA (competitive local keywords like "service + state", not "service + town + state")?

I am building out 3 tiers deep but it seems its not strong enough. At the same time I want to avoid high pr links. Because if I can outrank my current site with pure spam I can save a lot of money on high PR links. And not just that but I can scale up my local sites a lot more and generate a lot more leads.

Are people on here ranking local sites #1 with GSA? :)

If you will just use GSA for this site, filtering the tiers one will be a great idea. Actually thats a pretty good idea for any tier one. you really want a good quality in this tier.

Since you are successful in using high pr links? what stopping you now in using it? Just use high pr links and rank.. then build another site.

Just for clarification, do you mean high PR homepage backlinks on a private blog network? If so, it can be very tough to beat these types of backlinks. If not, what type of backlinks are you referring to?

Hoping someone can answer this, I haven't tried just using GSA to try and outrank a site with high pr links, I have always just combined the two and enjoyed the results.

Why not do both so you get better 'sticking power'. Throw in some high PR blog posts (from a trusted source) and social shares. If you're in a competitive niche then you might need to throw in some stuff that SER can't automate on its own to help you get in those top 3 spots. Getting to page 1 is usually a lot easier for me then from getting to say spot 5-10 to spot 1-3.

Time to add some high-value links into the mix... something like SAPE.

Check your competitors above you how are they ranking. If they have used PBN links then you can't outrank them with GSA alone actually..Like Tony_d said, mix it up with some homepage PBN links and it should move up gradually. Give it some time, dont blast it at once

Sorry for this noobish question, How can you tell that a link is from PBN or not when extracting links from backlink checkers like Ahrefs?

To OP: Can you share if you did all the link building yourself? Tier 1 -> Tier 2 GSA Blast etc etc

Just by looking at the source page.. if it's a blog site, and 'looks and feels' like a PBN, it probably is :) there's no hard and fast rules, but by the time you've looked at a few hundred sites you'll see themes emerging, and that will allow you to know quite quickly what the link is.

Tony's right, you need high PR links. The only diff. between homepage links and PBN's is that homepage links can be rented, while PBNs are owned by a private person or rented out through a company or interface. They carry the same exact weight regarding power and passing link juice to your site.

Please explain what you mean by funnel to the homepage? OP I would try a different keyword or try to run the same campaign at a web2.0 property to see whats up?
