i was stuck in position 27 for a keyword. 200 profile links, 10 edu links, 1 squidoo lens later im still stuck in 27. And i pinged them using pingler, pingomatic, submitted to syndic8 and feedage as well as sent them to feedlisting.

Depends on how competitive is your niche. I bought 150 and went from #20 to #8 with a not so competitive niche.

throw some ezine articles, it will help very much. try to diversify your types of links. Profile links are good but you will need more than that. Try
    - comments
    - articles
    - web 2.0
There are quite a lot of tools in the download section, they will help you a lot

put "site:your-url" in google search box. It will show whether your link was indexed or not. If you have scrapebox, the task would be much easier

i did what you told me and it showed 222 results but all the results were form my website, diff inner pages etc.

it didnt know any profile link pages and ive built quite a few hundred. my main keyword went from rank 283 to 26 in a 5 week period so its impossible my profile links aren't getting indexed

Hey, you got me wrong. If you want to check whether a link is indexed, use the operator above. For example, you spammed bhw :D and get a link like this.
    Code:
    http://bhw.com/profile/you
then you can check if it's indexed or not by:
    Code:
    site:http://bhw.com/profile/you

It doesn't happen just like that, you need to research before you do SEO! And profile links take forget to index unless you know how ;)

Google NEVER shows all the links it knows about, especially not with the link: operator - more like about 1%. It's next to useless and poor advice.

For your own sites - best to use is sign up for google webmaster tools and verify yourself as the site owner, it will show you at least SOME of the links Google knows about (arguably not all).

For competitor site, you can use Yahoo Site Explorer as an estimate, or other tools are available, but there is no way I know of to know exactly which links Google knows about for a competitors site.

I haven't had much luck with profile links either. Article/blog marketing has been more effective in my experience, but I suppose the competitiveness of the nice also plays a part in all this.

I am still not convinced at all that profile links are worth anything. Im moving up the serps now with a new method and its a killer. No more sweaty SB blog posts or crappy profile or social bookmarks or shitty forum posts for me.

For me - those days are long long long gone as far as good solid results go.
