Here is a couple of graphs of backlink building history taken from majestic of my 2 sites.

I wonder what should the graphs normally look like for a successful site? Should it be consistently straight showing constant backlinks?

I have heard people mention 'bell curves'.

I'm just interested in seeing what others make of this to try and ascertain whether my link building has been too sporadic.

Alternatively is it more a case of having to do as much is required for a given site so a case by case basis?

Do you see correlation between link building and serp? Are serp results otherwise moving at random without any pattern?

I would love to see the graph of what G. thinks is a natural link evolution (holy grail) but I doubt it looks like yours.
Steady upward motion with spikes now and then would be my guess.
Why has no one wrote a script for backlinks like that? not dripfeed, more random spikes.
