    Hi guys :)

Today I officially graduated and now bear the title of computer/software engineer (master's degree - cum laude).

    My reasons
Five years ago I was one among the kids who was reading every single thread on BHW discussing "college" and "degrees".
Initially I didn't want to go study because I was (and still am) too cocky,
but since studying in Belgium is almost "free" compared to all other countries,
I would be dishonouring all the people across the globe who do not have the opportunity to attend university.

Should you go get a degree?
I don't know what opportunities a degree can bring, I have yet to live that chapter of my life,
but I know that my mind is fixed on business and not on getting a job.
This will be a story for another day ;)

    Should you attend college?
The things I can do now, the things I know and the way I am able to think & work ...
I would be lying if I said it wasn't worth the effort.
Many classes were hard, as I was terrible at math, but despite the hardships I persevered.
I have learned things about computers, especially on the lowest levels, that most people never heard of and probably will never need.
However knowledge is power, if given the opportunity take the chance to study & learn more.

    Should you quit college?
Oh boy, I lost count how many times I just wanted to quit.
Some days you wake up and don't want to go to class,
the people in that environment are sooo different than what I expect them to be,
very few are "business" oriented and are focused on partying, playing games, wasting time, playing cards, etc.
I have had some serious depressions, however,
I always was able to pick myself up, tell myself "fuck it" and then go to class.
If I hadn't been exposed to Eric Thomas and his motivational video's, I wouldn't be writing this thread today :)

    --

Despite being a full-time student, I was lucky enough to make enough "internet" money to support myself, support my family and enjoy life once in a while.
A big thanks to all BHW members, I have learned A LOT ever since I came here in 2011 as 16/17 year old kid.

My best wishes to everyone who has supported me,
you may not realize it, but every interaction you had with me, in whatever way, has contributed to my breakthrough.

    Have a great day!

    Everything gets old.
After a while, business-oriented folks get old and you want to hang out with those focused on partying and wasting time.
I don't give a flying fuck about a university degree, still attend some lectures to learn something new and flirt with girls.:D

1st Congrats on getting your degree!
2nd i'd say that sometimes knowledge is power, but what if youre getting the wrong knowledge?
I.e I watched hundreds of "gurus" courses on how to make money with w/e, that have very old fashion methods and don't really work nowadays....
So be careful when you say knowledge is power... some of it is, other can make you spend a lot of time & money

I was lucky enough to being thought vb.net & sql in high school, I was able to use that knowledge to make my first private bots,
that was definitely a worthwhile investment for me.

Well done @healzer, I am positive that your qualifications will help you no end in life. It might be just the beginning but it seems that your mind is in the right place which gives you a head start.

    >Pascal - I thought this was outdated lecturer, who could not be bothered to keep up with technology and language demands, 24 years ago. Amazed they are still banging that crap out. Time to update the lesson plan!

Start looking now. Experience is everything. If you get in the chicken and egg scenario, i.e. you cannot get a job because you have no experience and you cannot get experience because you cannot get a job, do some side projects for evidence or do some local charity work you can show and reference. Once you are through the door, you are set.

I would, however the things I am doing (tech wise) as an entrepreneur are pretty much the same as I would be doing in someone's company,
except for getting paid $90-120k/year I really have no motivation to being a slave :p

Congratulations on your degree. Honestly since joining this site and slowly seeing my projects become successful I was starting to think about not going through with college. I was already thinking maybe it wasn't for me. Your post has pushed me to stay and school. Thanks op

Hi healzer. Congratulations on completing your degree!

I have been following your posts (checking once every few months, not like a stalker haha!) ever since PinBot caught my attention. You're one of the top members in the BHW community when it comes to delivering real value and knowledge.
