I have just bought a site with 300+ pages ..

I want to redirect the whole pages to a subfolder of my site.

Can I do it gradually i.e. 301 redirect 20 pages a day instead of redirect all 300+ pages in one day? I don't want Google to be suspicious , finding that that the content of my site become 300+ pages more in mere one day.

The custom redirect will be done via .htaccess . I will define 301 redirect rules for each of the page.

    Thx

    Home Page:
I recently did a 301 of ~25 pages from old domain (domain was penalized) to new one and still got lovely automated unnatural links message in GWT and the penalty passed on as well.

That might have been because loads of old pages had links built to them and if that is your case you might have to go slower than what you have planned.

I honestly do not envy you - manually editing .htaccess adding line by line * shudders.

Hope you get good results and good luck!

Do a full 301 redirect of all the pages, it isn't suspicious at all, purchasing websites and transferring their content on the new 'mother' site is a very common practice (believe me, I was a Project Manager). In fact, you could say this is the very purpose of a 301 redirect existing.

Your case is very different to FatSteve, whose purpose for the redirect was more of a fresh start to a penalised site, and there should be nothing wrong with it if you redirect all of the URLs immediately and ping the links. You don't have to be overly paranoid of Google, things like what you are going to do happen literally everyday.

    Thx Dubious,

What I am going to do is rediirect them to a subfolder on the mother site. I will buy sites on monthly basis . Every month, I am going to redirect new sites to various subfolders on the mother site. Is this practice acceptable to Google?.Mother site is a very general site.

This is a time consuming precess but could be done.
