I just registered a dropped domain which has over 5 million facebook likes and 1.5 million shares last week. Thats what I can see it Opensiteexplorer and the share buttons that I installed. Its in the ipad niche and got the term 'ipad' in the url.

I checked archive.org and the site was a blog with ipad reviews from amazon.

Any ideas how to monetise this?

Try a different approach maybe, I guess if the person dropped the domain its because it really wasn't a moneymaker. You could try an ipad giveaway raffle, add a content locker to the site so the person need to fill out an offer for them to be able to sign up. Reply with something in the email after they sign up like: this raffle will only happen if we get at least 5,000 people signed up. That way if it work you could actually give the ipad, take some pics and keep a monthly thing going on or something. If it doesn't you don't have to give out the ipad and try something different.

You could also give an app as a gift per day, and for people to sign up they would have to do the same as above.

    Just some ideas

or use a content locker with a cpa, that offers a free ipad or something related, and you'll be paid for every visitor that will fill in the form (from the cpa offer)

I'm guessing here but it may be fake likes and shares bought to promote the domain. And the domain didn't make much of money for the owner so decided to drop it.

    There's a big "could be".
If they are real likes install some analytics coded to see how many visitors you get. this could give you an idea of how to monetize the site.
