Man a true noob!!! Lmao messin w you.

You need to set them.up w a custom phone number and links that can proof your work. Google provides custom.number so when someone calls his office you can track you sales and your link click. Google it you will find out more...

And yeah if you can get him 3 new clients a month and say each client has a lifetime value of average 5k then you can pretty much make up whatever monthly payment you want that he is comfortable with paying you.

Then after you get him one new client cross sell him on other products new website, new brothers and mailers all the while you getting your cut bro...get to it!!

The keywords you want to move him up on is the ones that get calls and brings clients in the door...

    Best dentist in miami.
    Dentist near me
    Top rated miami dentist
    Local.dentist in 33155
    Etc etc....

He's already on Page 2 for most keywords and Page 1 for a couple. I don't know if he's used an SEO guy before - I can't tell.

Link analysis shows some pretty funky links though - he might've used a blackhatter...

Anyways, he's in a decent position in SERPs so he might already get 1-5 clients a month from Google.

So let's say he's already getting 3 a month, then I get him 3 more. That's 6 total. There's no way for me to prove which 3 are from my efforts right?

The most I can do is point out "You averaged 3 clients a month for 6 months, but this month it was 6 - double last month."

Why not emphasise on the benefits of how ranking for a keyword can bring sales.

You can also send a FAX to each dentist office if you have their fax number or you can get it from directory books.

There are a lot of sites that offer virtual local phone numbers which will forward the calls to your dentist and you can track the calls and even listen to them. I dontd remember the names rn but there are plenty of them.

I was thinking about starting a rank&rent model and this is what a lot of people were doing.

With his site, I don't think if he would be too willing to go this route.

What you can do is setup analytics and report all changes in %age. Saying you got 150 views this month vs 100 doesn't sound as impressive as saying we increased your traffic by 50% over last month.

You can't really do that either as businesses fluctuate throughout the year. You would also need to compare to yearly statistics to see if you improved compared to their average trends.
What I would do is ask them how many leads they are expecting to get each month anyway then come up with a report on how many I could bring them and charge them for that difference.

The phone number forward is a good way to track, you can also try affiliate codes.

If you mention Retargetting advertising to him it'll blow his mind and be a good addition bit of knowledge to help secure the sale.

Thanks for all the info guys.

Called him and he had a very stern voice... he started off immediately with "what can you do for me" etc.

I flipped it on him and began to ask what he was doing currently to get more clients.

He told me he is doing AdWords by himself and that he has an SEO guy as well.

I don't wanna make assumptions off a 5 minute call, but he seems like a hands-on dude that would be very interested in the technicalities of what I'll be doing - which is kinda annoying. I'd much rather have him just trust me and let me do what I do. I don't want to teach him local SEO. But whatever.

He told me he gets about 20 new clients per month but he doesn't know the source of all them. He checks his Google Analytics and tries to draw conclusions from them.

The most concerning thing for me was that he has an SEO guy. His inbound link profile appears to be littered with low quality links, and his "blog" category on his Wordpress site is POST after POST of spun articles on stuff that are completely unrelated to dentistry.

He has over 2k links of absolute bullshit! It will be like 10 spun articles in Spanish talking about Obama's healthcare policies, followed by 10 articles about the BP oil spill of 2010. Then these pages have links from a bunch of bullshit spammy sites.

His SEO guy probably told him these links would bring in business and then sold him a link package like 2,000 links for $1000 or some bullshit. I don't know. It's like the SEO guy is trying to fuck up his business. This worries me.

I need some help in deciding what to do about this - I'm not putting the link here but if a respected member can help me, I'd like to give you the link to see what I'm talking about.

I know there's some way I can turn this into a selling point by explaining the dangers, providing a solution, and getting him to fire his SEO guy so I can swallow up his rate + mine and charge a premium to fix this and actually get him on the right track.

I wouldn't count myself as respected member, but I think it would be the best thing to try to explain everything as simple as possible to the Dentist. I mean on one hand he seems like a hands-on dude, but on the other hand he seems to trust his seo guy blind (or he tells some nice stories). Maybe do a little on page seo audit for the Dentist with articles linking to his site. I think that he would understand really quickly that he is getting screwed over and probably is going to trusts you even more (and you probably can charge him more because you will do it right and have to clean up the mess from the other dude).

Just my 2 cents. I think it might turn out to be a great opportunity for you to make some serious cash (+ he might refer you to business friends because he has a story to tell about a guy who tried to screw him over bla bla but then you approached him and saved him a lot of money). I think you get what I'm trying to say.

Good luck! (and keep us updated!)

Edit: Just saw your edit. You basically know exactly what to do ;)

    Thanks @BhutJolokia

How can I go about finding out how much he pays this SEO guy?

"How much do you pay him?" seems a bit direct - I feel like he would probably get defensive or not answer because he knows I would use it to calculate my price... or he would lie and say half the price he really pays, etc.

I also want to know how the average lifetime value of a client.

    Should I just ask?

    Whiz,

be up front and ask. If he's asking about your service and he already has a SEO guy then it means one of two things a) he wants info from you b) his SEO guy isn't doing good. If you are as interested in his business as he is in yours you'll be able to open up a consultative conversation. He obviously has pain points with what he is doing now and you can help him, stern is good as it means he's straight forward.

    @BhutJolokia

Also I don't mean a respected member - just not a noob who is going to contact him and try to sell shit.

I want to show someone the URL so they can give me some advice. Do I just delete the pages from his Wordpress dashboard and the links will disappear because they have no destination?

Or do I need to do some disavowal process?

Oh, and I forgot to say in my post above - we set up a playdate for 1PM tomorrow.

I'm excited to wear these nice dress pants I've been waiting to wear for a while. I dress nicely like, once a year.

I think after you explained the situation to him (and you have the feeling that he understood it), you can just ask him what he is paying this guy. I think it doesn't really matter if he lies to you or not. I would probably have a fixed price in mind already, so his answer won't really influence the price, only the reaction to his answer.

I pay him 200$ monthly -> you get what you pay for. Explain how the pricing works in the IM world and what a real expert (aka you) normally charges.

I pay him 2000 $ monthly -> he rips you off and you could get tremendous results with this monthly budget if used correctly.

Just don't undervalue yourself. Be self-confident and I'm sure he will realise what value you bring with you.

I'm the wrong person for this kind of advice, I'm sorry.

And please excuse me if I write kinda weird right now. It's late and I should sleep.

I'm sure you can handle that with ease ;)

I've been stuck on my computer all night preparing - its 4:30 AM almost...

I spent the whole night until 5 AM preparing... I wake up and get dressed, make a coffee and I'm out the door when he calls me and asks "Can we do the meeting any earlier? I finished up a little early today blahblah...".

Mind you, it's 12:30 and the meeting is supposed to be in 30 minutes.

I tell him it would take me 20 minutes to get there, so I can't really do any earlier - maybe 10 minutes earlier (lol).

He asks if we can reschedule, perhaps Monday at 9 AM. I said "Ok".

He was not apologetic with words nor tone, and that is something that annoys me. At least make up a lie or fake it for me, you know?

    • ex: "I'm so sorry but something came up, can we reschedule?"

It was just "me me me". Whatever.

I think he just didn't feel like doing the meeting now and maybe he's used to having control (he is a dentist).

I don't like the fact that I answered "yes" to the reschedule so quickly, without the "let me check my schedule" line.

My first impressions of this guy are not the best, but if I am assertive and I control the relationship, then I can probably turn this into (semi) easy money...

It gives me a little more time to prepare, so that's a benefit.

I'm just hoping he doesn't come up with some BS excuse to try to cancel before Monday. He has 44 hours to come up with some excuse in his head...
