Bought a new printer a while back. Unit works great. The online store sent me an email asking me to review it (great strategy right there)... So I did. then an idea hit me, could I work in a reference to another product (you got it, one of MY products) into the review? Would it get published, and would it help? So, I filled out the review. Told them I liked the printer I bought, gave it a rating, and in the "Other Comments" area I put: "The BRAND MODEL printer is just like my [product keyphrase and name and url here] it just simply works" Guess what.. it published, I pinged the review, it shows in G, yahell and others. And it shows as a link with terrific PR. That was a week ago. Today that lone review brought in a new customer. Not bad for a 1 minute effort. I think from now on I'm going to review every online product I buy (which is alot) and drop little references comparing the good products with one of my own instead of blowing off review opportunities.
