I just got the dreaded message in GWT and my site it gonna drop in the next few days. Its for my offline business and was an authority site 3 years and 100 pages. Can I just copy and paste all the articles onto the new site? I really dont want to rewrite everything? Any precautions or anything I should know?

You can probably use the old domain for other stuff as well. Look into 301's. Also, what was the penalty for? If it's for bad links you can try to disavow them.

I suggest you to wait for some days after deleting content from your old site. After some days lets say 30days post your contents on your new site and continue working in that. Also do 301 redirect your old domain to your new one. So that you won't loose your visitors.

Delete the old content and then park your penalised domain and rebuild everything on anew domain but check that the content has not be opied and indexed elsewhere otherwise it will be useless. So only transfer content that is not copied elsewhere.

An extra step you can take to be super safe is, when you delete and park your penalised domain to wait 2 to 4 weeks for the pages to be deindexed and content disappear from the Google cache before re using it on the new website.

DO NOT 301 redirect old domain to new as it can pass on the penalty. (Hit and miss not worth the risk)

I was pretty sure 301 did NOT pass penalty? Otherwise, I could buy tons of penalized domains and 301 them to a competitor? It was my understanding that is passes page rank, does not pass trust rank, does not pass penalty, and also redirects visitors... Please correct me if I'm wrong.

FWIW, it defeats the purpose of starting fresh if your using old penalized content. If you want to do it right, I'd suggest not pinching pennies and starting a new domain with clean unique content.

Would the old content not rank if it was decent content, but he was penalized for links? I understand the logic, but I'd like to know for my self one way or the other. It seems like the old content would be fine if it wasn't spam content.

    When did this change?

What I'm say is, bestmate is correct. but actually it is not pass the penalty. But if your contents are same on both domains, that might happen. So you have to wait until google cache is cleared. Park your domain at least one month. Then check the cache. If it is not cached, then slowly build your new site. That is my opinion.

I would not advise using content from a previously ban domain.

First make sure that the site is completely de-indexed. Then copy the articles from old site to the new one but do not publish all of them in a short period of time. Instead, schedule them like 1 article after every 1-2 days.

why not? and why should he try to remove the penalty from the old site
since he will start a brand new one with no backlinks at all (so no penalty too)?

@OP: And I also agree not to redirect the penalised site to the new one
cause you just yell at google "hey i am the same webmaster will you trust me now? let me take the risk"
