Took me about 4 hours total to get it up and running from scratch. I used joomla for the CMS and I currently have adbrite and bidvertiser ads running. Working on getting amazon links up there too, but thats another process =D

Once the DNS updates, the official link will be http://www.factsaboutmarijuana.net , but for now it's simply http://henryhavoc.freehostia.com/joomla/

I have a bunch of articles posted on there, and I'm also using Feed Gator to snatch RSS and convert them into posts automatically! It's really cool and brings me good content.

Sooo. Keeping in mind that I'm only 14 and this took me around 4 hours to complete, how would you rate it? I'm open to constructive criticism as well. :D

quickest fix for me would be to make the header one image??? not looked at your code am getting ready to hit the sack - but take a look at a firefox extension called firebug, use the inspect feature to look at your code, thats what i usually do to find problems....

you also might want to install something like artio for search engine friendly urls

Yeah I'm about to go to sleep aswell. It's 1:07 over here =D Luckily I just got on spring break.

But I can't really mess with the images, as this is Joomla and it's pretty much all set out of the box. I'll work with it. Thanks for the input though! *thanked*

I didn't realize it either. It took me about an hour to figure Joomla out, but now It's really easy to use. Setup was 1-click. I use the free hosting at freehostia and they have a 1 click installer for joomla, SMF, wordpress, PHPBB, and like 27 other scripts.

Then I just looked for templates online, uploaded the zip file through joomla, and it did the rest for me =D

    ...

    How would you call it?

lol, well actually it's more stuffed with rss feeds than really scrapped content, but you get the idea as well
He took 4hours to set it up and won't have to work on it again, and now he will probably use it as a landing page to be promoted with other bh techniques, to make money through cpc ads, cpa deals and so on
Well if it's to be debated, I say it falls under the black hat category :D

joomla is actually an excellant tool for deploying sites quickly and if you know what your doing they can look really cool too! there are loads of template sites that offer great looking templates - but to ensure they are search engine friendly you need to be creating them yourself!

i can have a custom site up in about 20 minutes - and 40 minutes with a full blown ecommerce side to it too!

joomla with the use of third party plugins can be a great SEO tool - i use it exclusively for all the sites that i do these days!

they are a lot of sites out there that talk about joomla and seo but i dont feel as though they cover everything and as a result i am in the process of creating my own site to explain exactly what they miss, with video tutorials to go with it too! :)

i think i would be breaking rules of the forum to "advertise" my site by giving out the domain but its not ready anyway be a few weeks yet - besides if i know my stuff the site will be easily found on the search engines! LOL

**dont try looking now as i havent started my SEO campaign for it yet! **

Ok, one thing. Your choice of joomla template sucks hard. Get a new template, put some work into it with some cool weed logos and shit. Next register at least a free url .com from www.dyndns.com for a more professional and easy to remember name. Get a newer template, steal one if you have to and alter it to fit yer site. Sorry about being constructive, but on this one i could'nt resist. Other than that you have a good start content wise, you could likely make allot of money with this if you market it as an underground black and white paper magazine with it, if you get it some street credit ! Hope I have'nt been to harsh, damn good idea though gotsta go smokah the tokah.

Hey I just tried myself to create a quick site with joomla and feedgator.
The install went fine, but feedgator won't import the feeds :(
I hadded a few feed to test it (google news, yahoo news etc...) and when I click "import" it just says "Processing..."
    and then... nothing
Does it take ages for you too or do you think there's a config problem on my site?

(btw, I've never used joomla before, I downloaded and installed it for the first time two hours ago :) )

Here's a really good way to use Joomla, that I often use to deploy massive greyhat sites.

It assumes that you're working in the same niche, and just want to dominate it quickly and easily.

Build out a site. Completely whitehat.

Add every extension you think you might want to use. Also, I always add the stupid calendars because it creates a few hundred extra pages, and as long as your directory structure is SEO'd well, it helps alot.

I basically just add everything I need for a good site. Forums, classifieds, seo mods, etc.

Then install a component called JoomlaPack.

Joomlapack packs everything into a zip or rar file.

Then all you have to do is ftp that up to a server and plug in the database details, and you've replicated the entire site, with all the extensions that it would take a couple days (for me at least) to get set up.

I change the template, import a few hundred articles from ezine articles, scraped sources, re-written content, etc. and you've got everything ready to go.

    Instant membership site.

Normally I just set all the content to be accessible to registered members only, and then put something really interesting on the front page for the public to view and encourage registration.

I don't usually charge for membership, I just get them into a list for a specific tight niche and then promote the hell out of affiliate offers via email.

You can see an example at wudangquan.com . . . It's not monetized so I'm not trying to pimp anything.

I had plans to release a generic membership site install for joomla where you just entered your database info and the site was built, and would pull in content from several sources other than rss but just never got around to making a sales page. haha
