So i paid my ticket online, but i decided to contest it in court, so i called the court to reject the payment so now i have to show up to court on Dec 18 to fight the speeding ticket, Anyone has any ideas of how i should try to win this ticket, the officer checkbox the radar, are there any myths of winning a ticket thats caught by radar, the road was also clear, light traffic and i was on a 180 degree angle road and thats when this cop made a u-turn after being passed by several cars and to my surprised several yards away he just turned his blue lights on so i pulled on the side of the road. This is also my first time getting a ticket :l

What speed were you actually doing?

2 ways to look at this;

You could have sucked it up and just paid the fine, but I've no idea why you decided to cancel the payment.

Or you go to court and run the risk of a bigger fine / traffic awareness course or something?

I literally just finished a driving test I had to take because of a traffic ticket. I went to court last month and was the last person out of like 40 people to get out, so I saw a lot.

You can try fighting your case alone (several people did that).

About half of them got their tickets dismissed (unfortunately not me) because the officer that ticketed them didn’t show up.

The ones that were also dismissed were the people with lawyers. They know how to fight it.

And be polite to the judge :) He decreased my ticket fine because I was being polite and he knew I patiently waited until I was the last one.

There was also another person getting a ticket for speeding and instead of fighting it, he wrote a letter (not sure what he wrote) to the judge and it got dismissed. Maybe if you have a good reason and truly apologetic for what you’ve done, a letter could boost your chance of getting out.

My thread comment is unorganized sorry about that! Writing on phone and hope this helps^^^ thumbs up ^_^

I was hoping if i go to court
1.) Cop wont show up so its auto win for me
2.) I haven't really gotten any tickets or fines, so they might lower my fine because of safe driver for years
3.) If cop shows up, I wanna try and contest it for Radar angle Deflection, Since i was traveling from opposite direction the same from the cop, and when i was several yards away on a 180 degree road. He decides to make a U-turn right when i passed him and was already a bit far, There was also Semi's and couple Cars traveling the same direction as me, after they passed him, Thats when i started going and when i was about to go to an underpass, he pulled me over and just asked me how fast i was going when i said idk 60-70, and he said no i clocked you at 88 and im gonna give you a citation, He also gave me a citation for expired tags
4.) I recently just received my new compliant license and renew my tags day after i got the ticket( Could i use this as well to testify my expired tags since i already have it stick on my plate now day after i got the ticket) The court Date is also on Dec 18, so im not sure if that will help

I plan on contesting this ticket alone, so my only hope is either cop wont show up or if i can win my angle deflection maybe? , because i was in a rush so i couldn't miss my finals at that day. And thank you for the infos :)

You're not going to beat the radar with an "angle of deflection" argument unless you have a radar expert to testify on your behalf. If you want to try and beat it that way then hire one if those ticket fighting companies. They are usually ex-cops.

If the fine/consequences are not worth spending money to fight then follow @Social God suggestions. I had an almost identical situation to his. I was polite, admitted guilt, explained I was in a rush and not paying attention to my speed and apologized. The judge cut my fine by more than 50% and did not take away any demerit points.

88 in a 55 and they did not take your license on the spot?
No, maybe because i have a clean driving record? I've never gotten any tickets in my entire life until yesterday, Also my Tags and license were expired, so i only had the temporary paper that dmv gave me and my expired license, i just got my new compliant license today so i went ahead and got my tags today. But I already got cited for expired tags as well along with the speed ticket, but since i already have a new tag right now i renewed tags day after i got my ticket cuz i just legit just got the my new license day after i got this ticket. But since court is on Dec 18, and i decided to cancel the payment and told them i will show up. Will that help me any?

I plan to contest this myself because i dont think hiring a lawyer and pay for it is just worth it for this ticket, unless its really a heavy violation. I will probably look up for some informations where i can go against's some errors of radars and use it if the cop will show up. Because i think radars, you have to be directly not far away and has to be a certain angle on a road for it to read accurately, Meanwhile i was yards away and was on a 180 degree angle road, there was also a semi and couple cars behind me and at that time this cop decided to make a u-turn and go for me, but he didnt get me until i was a few blocks away by the underpass when i slowed a bit down to merge

You can try. But cops are trained and considered experts by the court.

Google and search YouTube. There is a lot of information to help you. Good luck and let us know the result.

Pay the fine and learn from the experience.
Do not waste your time arguing with the law, waste of energy unless you have reason.

If you do go, and the cop does show up, just plead "no contest". It'll hopefully reduce the fine. This usually works to reduce your amt because of your driving record.

I can't elaborate on this more because my uncle was a cop, had told me this years ago when I had gotten one, but I pussed out and paid the fine. but I can't ask him the follow up right now, nor before the 18th. Good luck bro

I got caught going 87 in a 55 when I was young and dumb. I lost my license for 90 days. Since then I drive like an old lady. That was almost 20 years ago.

Traffic duty on a cold wet night and you stop someone doing 80 in the UK ( limit is 70 ) more often you'd tell them to get on their way and watch their speed.
Unless you get the smartarse who says " have you nothing better to do ". Then it's check paperwork, check their insurance, check the vehicle for roadworthiness ( hmm, those tyres look rather threadbare ), oh and here's your ticket for speeding.

This cop seems to be around on his 23-25's, But since i got cited with speeding and expired tags, but now i got my tags and new license day after i got the ticket and since court is on dec 18, I was thinking if whether i could use the cosine argument to testify, because i was traveling from an opposite direction from the cop(hes traveling from the opposite). I was on a 180 degree angle road when he clocked me for 88, I don't know how but i guess he just made a sudden stop took a radar gun out and got me from behind then proceed to make a complete u-turn after the semi and few cars passed him. Then as soon as i was near the over pass, i slowed down to merge thats when he turn his blue lights on and i proceed to pull up to the side.

He had me for ORC4511.21D1 and ORC 4503.11

One of my sons was hit for going some stupid speed (I think it was 90) over a bridge on his bike and the cop gave him a ticket.

He paid it because he was guilty of the violation.

It was a little funny to me as he told me the cop asked why he was going so fast and he said he wanted to be able to tell his friends he went tat fast over that particular bridge. The cop, when he gave him the ticket said, "well, now you have proof".

Save yourself a bunch of time and just write the check and drive more safely for you and those others on the road. You seem like a good guy and I'd hate to hate to hear you got all banged up for driving at an unsafe speed.

I still laugh about my son's experience and bring it up now and then with him and he laughs as well but is a much safer driver now as well.
