I just got back from a well deserved vacation on Thursday. so Friday I am sitting at my desk doing reviews of paperwork and doing my to-do list ( I own a few companies so I try to do weekly reviews ). Anyway I get a call from someone offering me SEO work offering that they can improve my web sites ranking.

It was a great conversation, I liked the guy, it made sense what he was offering. but here is where it stopped and I had to tell him that I am not interested in his help.

I asked him the following: Please show me on Google analytical where you have taken a keyword with 30K daily look-ups and routed 6% of that traffic to the site, or a web site that is all organic where you are making 5,000 per month.

It's a simple question, but most Seo's will stumble on it, Why? it's rather simple, SEO's that are making 5K a month will build sites for themselves and continue to do that. the jobs they take are billable at 10K+ or more ( I'm willing to pay that ). SEO's that can get 6% of the organic traffic from a Google keyword also have highly productive sites and bill 5 grand or more ( which I am willing to pay )

I never have a problem off loading work, I got plenty. I just like hiring successful people ( they make me successful ). With that said, when you have a skill set, you can use it in your pitch, the better you are, the more likely you will find people will hire you for the success you generate.

If i were to become an SEO, I would start off with some personal work, make it really work and generate page views ( people understand getting traffic to the web site, so pitch conversion from search engines ), if you make money, great, but landing to the web site is more important ( unique visitors ). Then try to make another site where you are making money.

Once you have both, target small places ( bodega's, liquor stores, pharmacies, local mom & Pop,) where it's 3 hours worth of work to get them listed and become forefront in the community. bill the 150 for the services, build a reputation, then move up, get lawyers, auto places ... before you know it, you have a portfolio of places that you did good services, Google mapped them properly and people like you.

Now you upsell, you have a book of 300 web sites that you did, tell them about promotion services, show them your sites that you SEO'ed to the top, show them facts and hope. this way, when you contact a guy like me and I ask the above questions, they just show up with there laptop, open it up, show me facts, and I write the check. Simple

I hope this helps a few guys, there is work out there, find it and you'll make money.

Also, I am not looking to employ anyone at this time. so don't PM me.

Great advice BillyGood! Businessmen love results and at the end of the day results are what matter! There isn't a better way to make a businessman give you their money than showing them results!

What I also liked very much, was the video testimonial that PeachtreeSEO did.

Rank some local businesses & let them tell how much more customers they get now after you ranked them 1#

This would impress a lot of others, local businesses and gain some good trust.

Please edit your reply to include the link so that others may learn. I think if I was younger ( under 30 ) the advice taught on BHW would have made me a lot richer, have more hair, and live a lower stress life.

good, solid knowledge, with real world example are to the benefit of the community.

    thanks in advance.

why would a successful guy earning 5K+ per site call some firms and offer them their services? Its like circling on a jaguar near a mall to pickup people that want their shopping bags delivered for $200. Yes I know there may be 1 or 2 rich guys there in a year but they do not expect such a service from a mall.

Good advice, I am doing this right now. Contacting smaller firms about doing SEO, and doing a lot on my own sites. I will be there soon! Thanks for the ideas and information!

Sry Billy, it wasn't Peachtree SEO but it was off Google directly.
Nevertheless, this is s.th. that anyone can do aswell for his own company.

Offer free rankings in return for a small video testimonial OR just use this on, as PeachtreeSEO did.
I guess a lot of people will think it's theirs, as I did

Your mind is limited. The key is scaling up.

Imagine, having your group of telemarketers, also some sales man in every big city. All they do is, they get local clients for you. You get let's say $300 per month for 6 months and pay your marketers 20%.

That's it! The rest is your imagination & creativity.

This is true...I mean who would hire someone if they have hardly any past work to show them? You need to have a big portfolio to impress people like you so that you snatch up the offer right away.

The best thing about all this is its so easy to get the small local business ranked (in my opinion). Sometimes I literally just do on-page seo and they get ranked.

Successful one can make one some one successful. That is good ensured success process. I agree. I do agree.

How some one can become successful If some one is never failed!!!
How some one can even become successful if he is not given the chance!!!

The world is made by chance and only a new break or venture can create a new world even if you may fail lots of time. But if you just want the sure success you can just contribute one more to 7billion.

Hair loss, the solution is finding ways of outsourcing work, then going to the bar with a friend. wind down and read a book about cooking or history.

over time. stress reduction helps out.

great question, let me answer it.

Besides what others have said, a person can reach a point where all there work does not produce extra revenue for the time spent. So by going out, sharing your knowledge, being paid for it. You expand and the same time get paid ( also you learn more due to research ).

back in 2005 I learned this lesson the hard way, I was a lone wolf for a very long time, but I started to hire people that were trainable in certain aspects of what I needed, I built a team that cost me 25% of my revenue ( at the time I started ) but over the course of 2 years I was able to increase my income by 2 times ( 200 percent ).

I wish I had learned that lesson earlier, I took the risk and the reward paid off.

So, next time when you are building a business, get to the point where the return starts to diminish ( the curve turns downward ), then hire someone to take some of the grunt work IE: book keeper, ad agency that will place your ad's, secretary ... each time you hire someone, keep the business moving forward until the curve turns downward again, then find someone to fill in the niche you need.

A good example was some database work I just hired out: it was simple assignment, I had a DB admin look at the code of a database and tell me which functions where
    a) being used the most
    b) how many cpu cycles each function was using.

With that data, I had her optimize the most used calls first, which represented 68% of all the databases cpu usage. Once she was done, the server was down to almost nothing in cpu cycles ( I know I am using the wrong words but everyone should understand the meaning ) ... long story short. I did not have to spend a dime in upgrading the servers, instead the money was used making everything work faster properly and I will be able to handle a huge increase in traffic for a long while ( she said that by the time I needed to upgrade the server, it might as well sell the company and walk away with the money )

anyway hope you learned something today.
