After reading the many journeys in the forum I thought that I would create one of my own in order to hold myself responsible to meeting a goal in a specific niche.

I picked up a 3 letter domain about a year ago and every time that I go through my domain portfolio I inwardly kick myself because I'm not doing something with it, so now if I don't get moving I hope the whole board calls me a loser, and rightfully so!

I'm a Joomla guy so I thought that I would do this site to freshen up my Wordpress skills, I'm thinking about coding the theme myself but there is a ton of crap that I need to do and I don't want to get hung up doing perfect code on a site just yet.

    Niche

Although I'm very well versed in keyword in setting up a site with keywords heiarchy and all of that crap, I'm not going to do that with this site, instead I'm focusing on a 'concept' and not a group of keywords. With that in mind I'm still going to use best practice SEO with a SILO structure.

The 'Rich Jerk' did, and apparently still does a good business, and since they work a concept and not a keyword based niche it gives them many doors to walk through rather than a tightly monitored keyword approach. Using the concept format should be easier to find writers that want to 'showcase' their skills and potentially create a 'space' for their own businesses, and to build their own brands so it's going to be sort of 'Huffington Postesque' (whatever the heck that means). This method allows me to get 'free content' while they could build a successful brand for themselves, I want them to be VERY SUCCESSFUL because their success means my success. Since I have 10 years in the media / publishing industry I'm going to go with a magazine/news/info/gossip format.

If we're honest I kind of lose interest in keyword related sites after awhile anyway, and the work becomes repetitive, which is 'code' for boring.

Overall the site is focused on women's issues and things that ladies would like to read and share. After watching my wife's behaviour online I've noticed that her, and my daughters, and the female species in general (keyword:general, don't get offended) share a lot of content! So with this in mind, I plan on using this character trait and capitalize on it :)

    Promoting

The plan is to use my network of social profiles to get traffic to the site initially.

What I have available now is Facebook Dominator and a bunch of PVA's to get social traffic, although admittedly I build my social profiles a lot differently than most folks do, I put in a LOT of time building good profiles and if you were a friend to one of my PVA's you would think that it's a real person because the behaviour of my PVA's is exactly the same, which makes getting REAL people as friends very easy. The goal is to get REAL friends so when I post to my social network the magnitude of one post will measure on the richter scale, because not only will a ton of PVA's share it themselves and to groups, REAL PEOPLE will share it willingly.

Once I get some traffic I may switch to getting content that will help me rank for specific keywords. You would be surprised how little the publishing industry knows about SEO, I work for a B2B publisher that has over 50 trade magazines and 120 high value websites.

Our 'SEO dude' is still in the 90's with meta-keyword tags and other nonsense that doesn't help us rank well. The office politics are brutal and promotions are usually given due to 'friendships' rather than wisdom, that's the simple truth. Using our network we could dominate very highly trafficked terms but since we have a guy stuck at the turn of the century we don't, and settle with a pittance of the traffic that we could be getting, what a waste. When you bring up how we 'could be doing WAY better' people get defensive and think you are after their jobs, so I just keep my mouth shut now, I don't need the hassle. Over this amount of time I've learned the publishing industry from the inside out.

The site is going to be in a magazine format.

    Monetization

The plan is to use AdSense to monetize the site initially and since there will be no funny business on the site it should work well. I've set the goal pretty low here but the point is to achieve that small goal and then go for the next milestone. Call it a psychological judo if you want, lol, but small goals achieved brings more joy than large goal failures, trust me, I know this intimately. :)

Additionally I will be focusing on building a list from day one, the plan is to use the RSS to newsletter feature in Constant Contact or Aweber (automation baby!).

    Tools

Here's what I'm going to be using for tools:

    • GSA SER
    • GSA CB
    • FaceDominator
    • Twitter Dominator
    • Kontent Machine
    • Article Rewriter
    • The Best Spinner
    • Market Samurai
    • Scrapebox
    • Fiverr (for some articles and press releases)
    • Wordpress with a template formatted for better than average ad placements which will hopefully result in clicks, not fraudulent or using trickery, just smart web design. (after awhile I may move to Expression Engine it's $400 that I don't want to invest right now)
    • My home-brew social program (please don't ask, the answer is no)
    • A ton of domains that I own
    • There are probably a half dozen other tools that I use but can't think of them right now, I'll post them as I remember them
    • Lastly my brain, I have a degree in IT and have been a web developer for 13 years

Monthly expenses are proxies($30), hosting(around $20 for a cloud host with 3 different datacenters), and subscriptions (email management and monthly based software programs $50).

I'm going to start building the site this weekend or as soon as I get my starting articles, which will basically start flowing in here very soon. The domain is up and running with Wordpress installed and a few plugins for video, images and all of the other normal stuff that everyone uses to make their lives better.

The site will be officially 'launched' when I get 1 article up, but not 'promoted' until I get 20 or so articles up :)

    The Goal

Ultimately, my goal is to build the site and brand it, get it running well, and then sell it and put a 6-7 figure check in my wallet so that my wife and I can sell all of our stuff and build a 100% off the grid Tiny House (solar and the whole works), a new diesel truck to pull it, a nice car for my wife, and a few nice pieces of property to park it on strategically around the country (Florida so that we can fish, New Mexico for the beauty and Northern Michigan, Oregon or Alaska to avoid the hot summer and catch fishing season in Alaska again, lived there for 8 years and loved it). This will cost me probably around 125K to fulfill the goal and after that I can live feeding my chickens, loving my kids and hanging with my brothers and sisters in Christ while giving the money that I make away to my missionary friends in Africa.

Oh, my short term goal is to make UnGagged this year, might be a bit too soon but that would be great!

Thanks to everyone in here: meatball123, Bass Tracker Boats and everyone who takes the time to write passionately and slowly enough for folks to learn, you have all taught me a ton, especially about patience when someone asks a question that has been answered 50 times in the same thread ;-)

PS: I owe a great deal of gratitude to Shaun, he motivated me to make a goal, write it down, and get moving to fulfill it.

    • Thanks Thanks x 3

So, your goal is to sell a website earning $5/day for 125K?

No, that's not the goal my friend, here's what I wrote:

"I've set the goal pretty low here but the point is to achieve that small goal and then go for the next milestone. Call it a psychological judo if you want, lol, but small goals achieved brings more joy than large goal failures, trust me, I know this intimately. :) "

As in reach one goal, set another.

    Many thanks,

Al, ok, I somehow missed that. Considering your 13-year experience, and the set of tools you have that goal sounded funny to me. Anyway good luck with your journey!

    What I Did Today:

About 8 hours of profiling PVA's.
Setup Google alerts to bring in content that I can send out to feed the PVA's some content that can be shared.

Will work for another 4 hours profiling PVA's.

    On the Headset:

Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble - Texas Flood
    Joe Bonamassa
Tyler Dow Bryant - Born in Texas (one of my favorites)

I really like the goal oriented plan layouts. I think people get a lot of ideas and what ends up happening is they try to fulfill all but usually they fall short on them. Looking forward to seeing where you go with this.

    Work Done Today

    - Setup 20 new PVA's - 10 Twitter, 10 Facebook
    - Ordered more PVA's (10) because I guess I need to torture myself more with hours and hours of work (I am SO getting a VA to do this stuff)
    - Ordered 16 articles
    - Chatted with a great ghostwriter but he doesn't fit the 'woman format' for obvious reasons :)

Probably going to take off one day, when I hit burnout I usually go a long time before getting motivated! Can't wait to get the site filled with some content and getting some traffic, will give me hope!

    Have a good night!

    Peace,
    Z

Try to go with Tier Building, you'll reach quite quicker to your goal.

Thanks friend! I plan to once I get some content to link to up there :) I drew out a map with Photoshop so that I can just look at the map and tell where I am, and what I need to do next. It's a massive freaking graphics file where you can put many Tiers, PVA links and all kids of crap that probably wouldn't make sense to many other folks, like a whiteboard with a drawing that looks like some kind of freakish spider. I'm trying to add as much detail as possible so that I'll know what to do next time as well. :)

I have a domain list with about 300 domains with great PA on each of them that I researched awhile back, so I got tons of potential high value links/prospective tier sites as well as about 10 Wordpress and Blogger Blogs that I've kept around somehow since 2006, back in the 'Blog and Ping' days! Almost brings a tear to my eye.

Did a review for one of the miner software folks and hit the jackpot for expired domains with epic links to them. Some of them I put back online, rebuilt the content and then burned out, so they been sitting there for 9 months.

    Thank you for your encouragement!

    Peace,
    Z

    Subbed.

I love journeys like this. Slow and steady wins the race.

Go off the grid mate. I'm rooting for you 100%. Plus, as a writer and a woman, you've kind of captured my interest.

I actually didn't notice until reading your journey, but you're right: women share a LOT of content. I'm not too nuts about sharing content on social media (hate SM so much. So very, very much.) but I do share news stories I find interesting or that I think someone I know would be interested in. I usually do this over a text message or in person though. "Did you hear about...?"

Anyway, this isn't my journey, it's yours. Will be checking in with you periodically. Best wishes. :)

Thank you very much for your well wishes, I have 3 case studies that I live with (2 daughters and my precious wife) and I'm try to break them down to an algorithm that I can understand but so far not much luck! :) It's strange but neither one of my college age daughters like Facebook, they prefer Twitter so I need to come up with a way to capitalize on Twitter to get gals of that age group interested in the content of my site somehow.

I have however, studied their online behaviour and noticed how they surf and click, sometimes it confuses me, but perhaps they know I'm watching and using reverse psychology? LOL

    Again, thanks very much!

    Peace,
    Z

Good luck on your journey OP. Though I think Syrians are in need of help more than Africans at the moment. Being in Africa and all :)

LOL, it's amazing how far so little goes in Africa, my friend drives around on his motorcycle carrying rice and beans to folks (kids, homeless, widows) planting churches and serving 'the least'.

One of the places that he has a church is in a massive garbage dump in Nairobi where there is feces and filth literally running through the streets. Families live in this and little orphans run everywhere. They have an orphanage that can handle 20 kids but the guy that 'runs' the orphanage finds kids all the time that just wander around without parents and how can you not help them?

We got together and bought enough mattresses for 20 kids and figured that he would just throw out the others. However, what he did is kept the old mattresses and made room for 20 more kids and it filled the place! I could never turn away a kid like that, and neither could he. With this in mind he now has 40 kids! :) They teaches the kids and feed them now, it's awesome! The medical bills are costly and he has a bunch of kids with sickle cell anemia that a bunch of us do our best to help.

Have a wonderful day and thank you for your reply! :)

    Peace,
    Z

Good luck with your journey buddy. but just 5 bucks per day is really small goal.
