One Week Later, Google Algorithm Change Hits Streaming, Torrent Sites Hard

Video streaming and torrent sites have dropped precipitously in Google rankings after the company altered its algorithm last Monday, according to reports from Searchmetrics. One of Project Free TV's main operating domains, free-tv-video-online.me, fell 96% in Searchmetric's rankings, one of the biggest drops alongside torrentz.eu and thepiratebay.se.

But in a week, the algorithm changes have already made a difference. In addition to the sites listed above, kickass.to's Searchmetrics visibility dropped 66%, zippyshare.com dropped 86%, and extratorrent.cc dropped just over 80%.

Should an Internet user go looking for certain material via search, they will be less likely to see these sites among the results.

Well there are still fools who think Google is out ther to cooperate.... they're out there to milk the WWW for what it's worth and destroy every single site on its path.

It won't really matter to many of the big torrents. I remember reading on one of them before that 80% of their traffic comes from people going straight to their site and not through search engines. Plus, if anything it might get people using bing and yahoo more if they can't find what they're looking for on Google.

Most people looking for torrents will search for them on torrent sites but this update will certainly have an effect on the discoverability of those sites for new users.

Its really dangerous when they start altering rankings like that. Google is no longer a search engine but rather an advertising engine.

Google is just reducing their liability, they haven't banned torrent sites from being discovered. If you go searching for "torrent sites" on google you will still find them, and you can still use google to search torrent sites by using the site:torrentsite nameoffile method.

Assange does not think much of Google either. He does understand that Google only has Google's own interests in mind, and that Google does not care who in harms in the pursuit of those interests.
