Well as far as they're expending their profits horizon this won't look uglier to them.

Lol yeah seo is becoming useless. Instead of buying backlinks we’ll need to invest more into google ads i guess

Doesn't make it useless though. Regardless of the updates, SEO will still hold power. Majority of my site $$$ comes from organic rankings as opposed to paid ads.

Also, my clients still pay top bucks for local SEO. They want paid ads too but a large budget is placed on SEO.

Yes that is current scenario. But a lot can change if we have so many frequent updates.

There's more factors involved than just ranking your site dude.

I'm talking conversions, customer retention, and other metrics which makes my SEO campaigns more profitable than simply coughing up more $ to land #1 via paid ads and not generating as much $$$

You couldn't have said it any better. If paid ads began to get the same or higher CTR as organic results, I wouldn't waste my time on SEO anymore.

I like it. Favicons help people better recognize your brand among other sites.

But ads do look a lot like regular results. Is google desperate? Not too long ago ads where clearly different from the regular serp results.

This is how it used to look:
