Just had this come on my RSS feed, what are your opinions on this and what it will mean for us here on BHW?

    TechCrunch URL:
    Code:
    [U][URL]http://techcrunch.com/2011/11/03/googles-new-algorithm-update-impacts-35-of-searches/[/URL][/U]
None of my site's have ever been majorly affected (in a negative way) by any of Google's major updates, so it will be interesting on what this does to my site's SERP's...

I just had a look at my site's serps in Google.com (intl version) and my rankings for "web development" (without quotes) have increased (as of right now I'm 3rd). You can see the url where I got my results from here:
    Code:
    https://www.google.com/#sclient=psy-ab&hl=en&source=hp&q=web+development&pbx=1&oq=web+development&aq=f&aqi=&aql=1&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=2581l5483l0l5767l15l4l0l0l0l0l1818l1818l8-1l2l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.,cf.osb&fp=c3c44dfc6de168b9&biw=1280&bih=645
I also have just checked Google.com intl for the phrase "web design" (without quotes) and have gone from 18th on page 2 to 8th on page 1. Not bad since I have been concentrating on boosting serps for a "new" site of mine. You can see the url where I got my results from here:
    Code:
    https://www.google.com/#sclient=psy-ab&hl=en&source=hp&q=web+design&pbx=1&oq=web+design&aq=f&aqi=&aql=1&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=894152l895775l1l895831l4l3l0l0l0l0l0l0ll0l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.,cf.osb&fp=c3c44dfc6de168b9&biw=1280&bih=645
    .

My site's url for these results is interkiwiwebdevelopers.com... If I never joined BHW I would be probably stuck on the page 10 doldrums lol.

Also just an idea... If we all look at and analyse the updates undertaken by Google in the last 5 years and look at the underlying trends, would it be possible to come closer to cracking their algorithm?

Since google is going to look into niches that rely on fresh content that could be a very lucrative thing for marketers. Think about it.

"specifically those in areas where freshness matters. This includes things like recent events, hot topics, current reviews and breaking news items".

Interesting stuff, thanks for sharing sfidirectory.

Now, how to dripfeed a news event/review, on the hour, every hour, with a link/full story to my whitehat website, lol.

Would "unique" and "fresh" content also apply to spun articles?

If an article is spun well enough then it's unique and fresh as far as everyone else is concerned.

Not a problem Malofie... I am obsessed about my site's serps so anytime I see something like this on my RSS feeder I visit it straight away and if I feel it helps anyone on here I post it :).

For your rhetorical question... What about setting some sort of cron job that automatically runs a php script that spins/uniquefies fresh articles from RSS feeds, uses ***** Affiliate to put contextual links in, and publishes the post on a blog with an "articles" site template? I think WP Robot already does something like this already - havn't used it in such a long time.

I figured Google was doing this for a while. I noticed this a couple weeks ago and thought it was interesting how fresher sites were getting listed on topics.
Actually, if I recall, I think I noticed some lower quality links up top that were newer and that's what amazed me. But I don't think it was relevant, and you'd assume it would be some time before they determine how important freshness is, for what keywords.

I'm seeing it on my machine... Maybe its because I'm from NZ and the 'intl" results I am seeing are being delivered to me through my NZ based IP address. If I had a US proxy to use maybe I can see what you're seeing...

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. But there's also a new update in regards to duplicate content. So it depends on how good G is at picking up that duplicate content.

    Code:
    http://searchengineland.com/google-webmaster-tools-provides-details-on-duplicate-content-across-domains-99246
So I was thinking of a different approach, if a bot might work.

Bear with me here, but lets say i'm able to establish what sites G displays when it comes to recent events, hot topics, current reviews and breaking news items. Will it display press releases, web 2.0 blogs etc..

So let's say I create a post on my money site, based on a trending topic. I then have the bot create a unique post on a different platform, every hour or 2, with a link to the full story (my money site).

This is all theoretical, but that could mean I might be able to dominate a topic for an entire day.

What about using a tool that passes all generated content through CopyScape (maybe via a use of an A.P.I or something), makes sure each article passes this before being published on your site? Before any content is parsed through CopyScape, make sure the spun content is not garbled and human readable, and spun to min. 60% uniqueness...

Google is continually improving their algorithm, I think if that new internet bill goes into effect, google will lose a lot of their revenue, I would estimate 45% Drop in Revenue..... Also tons of sites closing up, esp "streaming" sites.

Correct me if I am wrong but it seems that this update is only for trending hot topics and news stories that just come out?
