    Hey guys -

This is my first post here and (surprise, surprise) I have a few questions :)

I've got a few websites but they were hit by over-optimization penalties a while back and couldn't/didn't know how to recover them so am now looking to YouTube as a more sustainable way to make some money.

First, is this the right approach? I've heard a few people say sites convert better than videos

Second, from what I can see, comments, likes, subscribers, favorite's etc. don't seem to play much of a role in ranking a video in Google. Based on this observation, is it fair to say that video embeds, high pr links, web 2.0's a few social bookmarks and indexing are the main areas I should be focusing on?

Regarding my sites: Would buying a high pr expired domain circumvent the over optimization problem? I was making some decent money before and would really like to try and get things back.

    Any opinions/assistance would be great.

    Cheers, Jon

    1. The best strategy is to use videos in collaboration with websites (aka landing pages). Use your videos to attract more visitors to your websites.
    2. "video embeds, high pr links, web 2.0's a few social bookmarks and indexing are the main areas I should be focusing on." Yes, this is a good optimization strategy for Google Search. However, you should also consider trying to rank/be suggested on YouTube since it the 2nd largest search engine. The main factor used to rank YouTube videos is time watched i.e retention views (read http://youtubecreator.blogspot.com/2012/08/youtube-now-why-we-focus-on-watch-time.html)
    3. You don't necessarily need an older site. Just rank your YouTube videos and they will generate traffic for your new site
