Alright. So I recently checked Google Webmaster and found that one of my pages got 1300 backlinks from from a single wordpress doot com blog. It (apparently) appeared on several pages dating back to 2014 (my blog has been around since March). I had never heard of the blog nor had I ever done anything with them. When I went to the pages I found that there are in fact no links to my pages. I have no idea how they got there or if I should get rid of them. I'm not sure if it's good for rankings or not, I'm currently ranking 11th on Google and I have 7 other legitimate links (5 from Tumblr, 1 from Alltop, 1 from Dragplus).

Does anyone have any idea where these "links" could've appeared? Should I denounce them?

Sitewide link? You can download a table of backlinks from Google WMT which contains the URLs of the actual pages on their site which are linking to you.

Once you find the pages that link to you go on one, view their site's source code and Ctrl + F then search for your page's URL. If you can't find the button to view the source code (it's buried on some browsers I think?) you can right click anywhere on their page, choose "Inspect Element" and search from there.

If the link is legitimate let it stay, sitewides are fine by the way... If it's a really dodgy one contact the webmaster and request the link be removed, or disavow.

Building too many links on one source can make you seem like a spammer. At first you have to analysis the backlinks and check whether if its passes the Google guide lines. It not, then remove all low quality links that causes negative effect to your site.

That's the thing. The links don't show up on the page. The site has a twitter embed so I'm wondering whether it came from there but I couldn't seem to find any links to my stuff on the guys twitter feed.

If it was in the Twitter feed your URL wouldn't show up, it would be a shortened version. I forget how Twitter links look but they don't use full URLs due to Twitter's stupidly low character limit. If there's nothing in the source code you should be okay.

Try looking at a Google cache of one of the pages that supposedly contains your link. That might show something.

It looks like it was some sort of rotating feed. A good chunk of the links have disappeared from Google Webmaster at this point so it looks like the problem is going to resolve itself.

your 1300 bcklinks wil be from sitewide limks which means a link on their sidebar toyou. So all pages of thier site will be linking to you. Not much use. Google simply does not take them all into account. Just make sure you dont have too many domains doing this or it looks like you set up progams to develop spammy backlinks to your site.
