Here's what happened to me,

On August 1, there was a huge boost on my traffic and my revenue has doubled! Of course I was very surprised but I already convinced myself that it's only temporary. The next day, my websites got the same amount of traffic and revenue so I began having hopes that it's going to be stable. I didn't update my websites and my websites keep on getting the same huge boost of traffic. There was some fluctuations like 280k impressions became 260k then 240k, but it didn't bother me. My websites maintained the huge amount of traffic although it was gradually decreasing as days go by. Traffics were still going great for my websites until the afternoon of August 5. Evening of the same day, there was a huge drop on my traffic! It's like going back to the amount of traffic I was getting before the huge boost. It bothered me as I was already accustomed to the increase of traffic that my websites just experienced. What I did first was do a crawl request through google search console. Now from my usual 160k impression, it dropped to 120k.

What do they mean when they say there is nothing webmasters can do about it? Could it be that others sites have just been given preference?

Yeah they're saying there's nothing specifically wrong with websites that have dropped. They've just decided to move other websites up and give them more traffic.

If the Healthline website is a sample of Google's new quality guidelines Im done! I have seen that site pop up on a few personal searches and their content quality in my opinion is terrible and not fun to read.
Yea, but they are better when compared with WebMD or Livestroong.

Are you suggesting they adjust algorithm manually? What could possibly go wrong here? :) Boosting websites manually is not a fair thing to do. While I do agree that authority websites (in most cases) deserve higher rankings, it totally defeats the purpose of having a dynamic algorithm in the first place and it also kills all chances of small sites to advance. Where is google heading? To become DMOZ#2 and manually review each site and determine their position in SERP?

Also, my traffic hasn't recovered yet, I'm still down approx. 50%, so I am beginning to believe that this is the new reality now. Was working hard to achieve this in the past 5 years, but now it seems it's all been in vein. Still seeing some crap sites outranking mine, however my competition (medindia, webmd and such) have mostly had their positions unchanged. It's just that some "semi-authority" websites have now squeezed in....

Some of my website's ranking has improved. so, its going good for me.

Even I am facing the same issue. My website has been indexed, but now dropped to 3rd page. How can I overcome this issue?
Let algo settle in. It will take 2,3 days to week . Once dust will settle, then we will know final outcome . Dont panic , if your website goes down as it may be temporary.

Anybody receive a mobile ranking email?

Mobile-first indexing enabled for {my site}
This means that you may see more traffic in your logs from Googlebot Smartphone. You may also see that snippets in Google Search results are now generated from the mobile version of your content.

A google says this started at the end of April, but not sure what effect it will have in overall rankings and traffic.

This is normal behavior, the mobile first indexing info keep coming for multiple weeks prior to the Update.

I mentioned significant drop of traffic on my several websites (French network) but not on all of them. The bigger website dropped from 3.5k visitors to 2.2k per day from 30 Jul to 7 Aug. I see that most popular pages on my website lost their positions. I mean keywords that ranked for 1-2 position dropped to 8-10 even 30 positions...

It is interesting that I added to these pages some relevant text, images, videos, outbounding links about 1-2 weeks ago. And no link building were made at all.

The same I did to my top page that delivered 70% of all traffic on a website, but additionally I added quizz to extend vitors time spended on this page. During last 2 weeks I wached positive changes from 8 to 6 position for main keyword and than it dropped to 30 pos. and all the long term phrases are disapiared at all from console.

I must say that pages that I left as they are dropped too.

One of my post was rank 2 for a certain keyword but then it dropped to 5th. After doing fetch and request index via Google Webmaster Tools, my post disappeared from top 100 results. Among the new top 10 results for the same keyword, 5 are spammy looking posts from a single website that appeared on page 7 before the update.

I have had a significant drop in traffic, over 50% and it is stable. My ranking all dropped about 10 places off the first page. So either i need to do more seo or give up .....

Two of my EMD keywords took a serious beating. One went from fifth position to now page 4. Another went from bottom of page 1 to page about 2-3 now. Heavily suspecting this update had an impact on keywords matching your domain exactly. This happen to anyone else?

Some of my kw's returned but others tanked and stayed there. Really can't pinpoint what the update is about - most of my sites saw negative effects and some I did not even do any SEO on... Google is so unpredictable

I think this is a good point and something that I have noticed also. I see a lot of sites ranking well (despite being spammy, keyword stuffing etc...) - simply because their domain name has no relevance whatsoever to the niche. Seems odd that Google impress upon people how important relevance is, yet they are now doing the opposite within the search results.

It may be wise to purchase some non-niche related expired domains, add some content and see what occurs. I shall certainly be trying this out.

My site is not emd but got affected. EMD is not a problem with this update. It is also fairly easy to spot and i doubt that we would need a core algo change to implement this parameter.

I am starting to think that the problem could be "outgoing" links from the site. Example: having a health site and linking to some "male enchancement" sites should give a red flag, wouldn't it?
What do you think?
It has to do something with backlinks, I am more and more certain. Either incoming or outgoing links.
