I've used HPS on two of my websites, and didn't receive any unnatural link warning on any of my websites. And I didn't do any blog commenting that wasn't approved.

I wouldn't put it past google to attain the information about Akismet about sites that were moderately or excessively marked as spam. They already have APIs for twitter and facebook as far as I know

What do you guys think? Does it match up with your backlinking strategy?

The best policy is to delete/remove all Google product services (Analytics, Adsense, etc.) from your site and close your Webmaster Tools account. With their recent privacy policy change, combined with other efforts, Google is profiling webmasters and using the data these webmasters supply against them. We do not need to give Google any more ammunition against us then they already have.

Just my $.02, but if people are using BH tactics it is best to stay under the radar by avoiding any Google product entirely since such products collect data.

I would not be shocked if Akismet was sharing data. Such a policy would give Akismet significant power to destroy many websites. It should be interesting to see how all this pans out...

Yup, there was another topic like this very recently.

If google and akismet have teamed up then it is entirely possible that akismet is sharing its spam files with google.

This gives extreme power to Google and could potentially affect many seo businesses and seo practices. Also it may entirely change the backlink blog comment industry as comments marked spam will be seen by google across all websites.

Sometimes it just takes one idea to change your whole belief system. Hence why I posted it here, to be able to get a bigger sample.

I really need to work on my thread titles :p

That has already been disproved. Google already has the data shown in WMT, and google doesn't use your analytics data. And if you're using adsense, then using analytics won't make a difference.

Aye, but people shouldn't be blasting their money sites directly anyway. It would be surprising if all the people who got those warning messages did it.
But then, your competitor could've done it as well.

I don't think the loss in ranking and the WMT message was linked together. Loss in rankings was probably due to the deindexing of thousands of sites with your backlinks on it, and the WMT message was because of the blog comments.

I never did blog comments to my site and I got the message and a -50 penalty. I have started to see some improvement as this happened Feb 17th, but it will take more time to fully recover.

Like I said previously, it is possible and something to consider...

What blog networks did you use? How big a part were they of your seo strategy?

I used blog networks (NOT ALN or BMR)...

The blog networks I used were about 15% of my backlinks...most of those links are still indexed...

I think I ran into trouble as I had a ton high pr home page backlinks (let me clarify and say these were not private blog networks, but high pr home page backlink networks), these were pushing some serious juice to my site...I was paying over $500 a month for these two networks...

Google says they don't use Akismet to catch link spam:
Just found the link so sharing it here. Haven't even read it yet, will do it when I have some free time.
