This looks an interesting challenge for we auto-site builders: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/ugc-fresh-data-program
There's a vetting procedure but I'm sure there will be ways around it.

On the other hand, any WHs running popular or niche forums should give this a look for possible increased discoverability. Or it could just be another way for Google to feed their AI training fresh data without having to go out and find it

At this point, it should be obvious. Any new change they make increases their advantage and benefits them more than any other party involved.

Its literally just a free data feed for gemini training under the guise of discoverability. Unless you're running a massive platform with strict moderation, google wont approve your API access anyway.

Google’s focus on fresh UGC data makes sense, but the real question is how much it impacts rankings compared to content quality, relevance, and genuine engagement.
