It's been recently announced that Google's going to start making Apple TV v2.0, uh, I mean set-top-boxes to stream internet video for tv viewing. They'll be available in the fall.

You guys crack me up! Yeah, Google can't help being everywhere these days. Just how they're everywhere online, they seem to want to also be everywhere offline. It's kinda scary actually.

I can't take this tv thing seriously though.

Google just can't understand that they are creating a backlash on themselves by trying to take over everything. People will never trust a company like that.

I don't know - there's the camp that would most definitely react in that way (I'm in that camp, it's obvious that you're in that camp, and probably many on this forum are in that camp). BUT, there are others who get a comfy cozy feeling having a recognizable company/brand deliver lots and lots of stuff to them.

Look at our front door - IM, and the case of Amazon. Folks are comfy buying lots of stuff from them that isn't at all related to books and see no problem with it. I mean seriously, things like tea and Nikes... things that folks previously had no problem just picking up on their next trip to the grocery store or shopping center.

So Google powering your phone, your tv, your internet searches, your mail, your business collaborations.... folks may more see it as "convenient" than intrusive. But I like these people, 'cause I assume they're the same people who think they're really going to get a free iPad for clicking on a link ;).

Thanks for that, and I think she makes a really good point with number 3. I look at my mom and, though she's addicted to certain shows, she's not the type to "get" the whole internet/tv hybrid thing. Quite frankly, tv is simple enough as it is, and this set top device only complicates things. Just like with Google Wave, if you can't really explain to yourself why you need this thing, it's probably not worth the effort of putting it to use.

That's pretty cool. It'd be awesome if it was available for my droid eventually.

Ever seen the movie ' Antitrust ' ?

It is NURV all over again. Trying to make Synapse a reality. Get over it, Google, at&t is already way in the lead for global communication platform development. That's why they bought up sbc, cingular, dishnetwork, yahoo internet, etc. They are the ones to watch out for. Google is just looking to get their hands on some of the media traffic like everyone else.
