In recent news, Google said that they are building new tools to track down paid links (I even think that this new Disavow webmaster tool might even help them with this IDK).

What I want to know is are they going after sellers like the ones we have here in the BST section or are they really talking about website which allows you to place a link on their site for a small fee?

I think they are more concerned about buyers of such links.

For now the sites that are selling (or G thinks they are) are penalized harder then the buyer, I think it will continue.

Yes, I know. I was not sure by what they meant when they said "going after paid links" since alot of these services in the BST use publicly available web 2.0s etc.. I just can't fathom how would they be able to pull something like this off.

Well, it doesn't look like anything good is going to happen because Matt spent his money on a dozen more penguins to alert us of new updates.

I see a lot of baby penguins so maybe he is trying to tell us more changes are going to come (reproduction of penguins).

To those reading this, I would work on more than one method to get to the top because if one dies you have a chance to recover faster.

Well for crying all night, what do they want to do, just kill the whole Internet outside their big corporate payers? They have a lot of nerve grousing about paid links when that's a huge part of their own income. Unless I'm missing some point here - if so, please clue me in!

Just don't listen to their propaganda. They're throwing stones into the bushes to make you look in the other direction!

..People sometimes think they can buy links without footprint, but you don't know about the person on the other side.
He is right. The person on the other side (link seller) is using gmail for accepting payment, your site details and sending link reports. It's damn easy for google to make a simple tool to automatically collect this data and use it to f**k your site.

Seriously, you should STOP BUYING links from the SELLERS WHO USE GMAIL or any other google service.

if it is the case, google would have thrown out the advertisers who advertising through adwords for all the keywords related to backlinks and seo services.

Google wants us to spend on Adwords.

Summary of the whole interview : Adwords is the new SEO

I was thinking the same thing, but I think google wants to "Solve The Problem" without harming a particular niche/site.

For example, warez, illegal music, videos etc.. All google would have to do is de-index all of these sites, and the problem solved for piracy (not completely but 85 percent of the traffic to these sites would be gone). Yet they refuse to take this measure and I don't think they ever will.

I actually did have the same theory.. I hate when some sellers sends me an excel or word document with my site/links that were built to it. Google is a data whore.. They collect as much data as possible, same as facebook. I would not doubt that these would be one of the ways they can target/devalue links since it would be extremely easy to do.

I personally think its ok to still send these type of reports with gmail but it would be much smarter/safer to just zip the file and then send it to the client. And if you are really paranoid, even add a password to the archive.

I'm not an expert or any thing but it seems like they are trying to even out the playing field .

More Google scare-factor.... If I had a dollar for every bogus Google press release, I'd invite everyone here to a nice weekend in Maldives... :D

Google probably tracks the more famous and well known ones. I doubt they come after smalltimers like BHW sellers.
