I'm ready and eager to see which new methods to exploit we'll be able to come up with!

Playing devil's advocate, it's their third major attempt and I'm not sure what's so different from orkut or buzz they'll be able to offer in order to convince 400M (OK maybe 200M real, the rest is us..) users to switch from fb... After all social networking is a very time intensive activity and unless they have something groundbreaking to give away it's gonna be the next dud.

But, hey, whatever works for US! :p

The problem is that people already have so much invested in their facebook profiles (ie. photo albums, tagged photos, apps). Google can't just be better, they need to be a lot better.

even if it becomes another failed project by G,traffic will be there.even 10% of fb traffic is huge.its like re-inventing facebook again.so no matter how small r big it goes, smart early starters will always make $$$$$. just imagine if it incorporates even half of the features of fb like apps, games n so on...these is going to be a huge opportunity. i dont understand why everyone thinking of spamming but huge money can be made smarthat ways too..just put your thinking hat up n start implementing.i would start saving up as much as i can to fund few good projects on GM.

    No problem, anytime!

The price of Google Accounts has already sky-rocketed due to their new SMS verification method.

Google can conquer anything they set their mind to. If you read the article I posted, it clearly states Google did not have Buzz or Orkut on their top priority list. However, this new "Google Me" social network is a whole different story.

I truly believe Google will take over FB, because Google is the best when it comes to preventing spam. That is exactly how Gmail took over all of the other major free E-mail providers. People were tired of ineffective spam filters, and Google had the solution. So if current FB users are annoyed enough with all of the spamming currently going on, then they will definitely switch to "Google Me." Also, Google will be able to implement features that FB cannot compete with and would not even be able to fathom in their wildest dreams. FB threatened Google, and now Google is going to respond; IMHO, Google is going to crush them!

Lastly, for all of you who are ready to start spamming "Google Me," if you are already having trouble making decent money with FB marketing, do not count your eggs before they hatch; I can guarantee you that Google will have their stuff on lock (as always). That is not to say that there will not be money to be made with Google's new social network, but if you think FB is hard, just wait.

They can do better, and IMHO, they will. I do not know the legality of this, but they might be able to implement something to easily transfer your FB profile to "Google Me." Trust me, Google will come up with whatever they need to come up with to totally crush FB. End of story.

Agreed, some good opportunities may come from this. G has maaaaassive marketing power and if they come up with a solid privacy policy which they will... market it as the "Safe" facebook.. then Im sure they will take some of the market share!

I love seeing two big players going head to head... If I were Mark I would have sold facebook for the billions he would be able to get for it... live the rest of my life running a succesful (whatever the fuck he wants) afterwards

I agree with you completely; you made some very good points (something I totally forgot about). FB's main weakness is their privacy issues. Google will definitely come up with something solid when it comes to privacy, and they will definitely win over a lot of people IMHO. FB is really going to get a run for their money.

Do not be so sure. You just posted a thread offering some DVD post (which I cannot understand for the life of me) and literally "any software" anyone could ever want, all for a status update to get your fan page going since you do not have any money. Are you still trying to increase your post count with these useless replies?

This should be interesting. Can't wait to see how it looks. What I want to see is a very strong visually attractive site. It would be great if you could import all of your albums from Picasa too and I'm sure they will implement that. That way people will be able to switch from FB no problem, except for FV/MW players lol

Google can easily create a better site than Facebook if they fix all the annoying ways Facebook uses to to try to keep users coming back to check their profiles, such as

    - implementing user approvals of wall posts and especially photo tags (very easily doable, wonder why Facebook doesn't?)
    - not resetting user profiles to public when changing privacy settings as Facebook has randomly done in the past, which forces the user to reset all of their privacy options for different aspects of their profile, having to block certain things from certain people, etc.which can be very time consuming.

Facebook is real sneaky with these actions and is tolerated only because of its huge social networking monopoly. Their goal is to stimulate drama over users and their peers, and force it to be more time consuming. (nonetheless their goal which creates more $). Anyone also notice how the new layout requires you to go through a menu to log out? This requres two clicks to log out instead of one, no doubt decreasing logout rate conversions.

What Facebook does is extremely obvious, and perhaps Google can take over with some changes.
