I recently got messages for several sites that they had thin content. Google applied a manual spam action to these sites. They are emd mini niche sites with 4 to 5 completely unique 500 word articles. Any advise on how to get these penalties removed from these sites.

    Hi,
Use Google Analytic to identify thin content, Correct it and appeal to Google.

Google Analytic will tell me exactly what the thin content is then? Thinking it may be the site layout as all 4 sites have the same theme and layout but I will figure out how to use Analytic and see what it tells me. thank you

Dude, you have described exactly what the penalty is...

"They are emd mini niche sites with 4 to 5 completely unique 500 word articles"

Let me bring you some bad news, it is 2014, not 2012.

If you want to use mini emd sites, do bh, rank and bank and rinse and repeat, no point on having a small site aiming to stay there for long...

Do what they want and write better content. The thin content penalty is one of my 'favourites' - I know some members will swear by using 'unique' 500 word articles that are beefed up with useless information, but most people are only going to survive if they invest in real content now.

In fact, the sight of these thin articles really riles me. I've a feeling Google is only touching the surface with this penalty and countless sites with these articles will always slip through the net - it's just too hard to control manually unfortunately.

I am going to add some more content to the sites and some videos. The articles themselves are well written and engaging and as good as anything that is out there right now. Going to change the layout also and see what happens.

    Hi,

youre right here. "unique" 500 Words means = Useless Information. 500 words about bla bla. If you read the content yourself, you will not find any usefull information.

The clue is: write less, but better: e.g. how to use the product, how it was produced, where to buy it, which negative aspect / positiv aspect, recommandations etc.

Honestly if they are just small sites with minimal content I don't think they are worth the hassle unless you're making some serious bank.

Just worried about my future sites one in the works has 80 articles already and I don't want to get penalized because of these sites. 1 of my sites that isunder penalty has 150,000 exact match results I was going to try to make into an authority site.

If you want to make it into an authority site then you are going to need tons more of high quality content and make sure you
are not keyword stuffing your articles since this can cause a penalty.

That's definitely defined as "thin content" by G these days - but they also have a "catch all" that they can use, "violates webmaster guidelines." I had a site which was definitely not thin slapped for unnatural links. I got that penalty removed but was immediately hit for "violates webmaster guidelines" with no other detail - and of course, they won't tell you what the problem is. Bottom line: they can penalize any site they want, at any time. But if they review your affiliate site and it only has five 500 word articles, chances are "thin content" is an easy choice.

The best way to avoid the "thin content" penalty is to have a site with 6 pages each with 1000+ words of content :p

Not sure who Google thinks he is, who the fuck is he to say how much content a web document should have, what a twat.
