Google took action on blog network My Blog Guest. According to Cutts:

"Today we took action on a large guest blog network. A reminder about the spam risks of guest blogging: http://goo.gl/cnkoFA "

It looks like at this point in time, it was just the actual domain myblogguest.com that was penalized, but according to Barry Schwartz's post he thinks that webmasters will soon start to see link warnings in webmaster tools. We will have to see if that is the case.

Anyone notice anything yet on your end?

Google is being a punitive prick. I think its because she held up the stance that you blog to network and not for Google, of course Google wants you to do everything for Google.

Unlikely the sites will get penalized.

Myblogguest was basically just an aggregator, and hundreds of thousands of domains have used it to make connections + guest posts.

There's no way they could track down the domains without having internal access at MBG.

Unless I'm mistaken.... wasn't that the service that would just email you information on potential guest post opportunities, and then you would have to pitch the webmasters?

Its very similar but all the connections are made via the forum from what I gather. Its still areally shady move by Google because if you read around the site they dont promote any selling of links, the caution against exact match links and the only thing they look like they charge for is the tools, not the ability to exchange articles with bloggers. It looks more like networking than anything else.

I kinda feel bad for her because unlike us she looked to be pushing for real quality, even if there was some crap on the site.

I know thatt since Google has made almost all links "bad" as far as they are concerned, but they are doing some really bad things to try and hit their goal. I believe their tunnel vision is going to be the end of google. they are worse than the political correct crowds at this point. Everyone in online marketing knows that they are doing this for their bottom line, and not for the public. Even Aaron Wall calls them out for what they are.

Saw on a few other sites that people are already reporting unnatural link warnings in webmaster tools. Hoping it is just a coincidence with timing, but people are currently claiming that was what it was from.

What you exactly want? Why do you think its network? This is a platform where people come and take only relevant posts.

Is this also spam? Or do you completely want to close guest blogging? And want to divert peoples mind towards adsense? Why you are not making your stand clear?

Myguestblog is platform where site owners and writers who want to publish their posts come together...and that's all run without any money transactions. And at least with 90% relevancy we can see on this platform. Then what's the point to penalized it?

If you will penalize things like this way. Then the day is very near when people scare to build any links on web.

This is really ridiculous steps taken by Matt cutts since last year or two. People will start hating Google - if this will remain the same.
Guest blogging is such a great way to build relevant links. You keep saying each time that to get links from relevant sources. If my topic is health related and I'm getting link from any health blog which is very genuine and real- then why I should scare about it? Do you still say its spam? Only adwords is good option now?

Seems like google don't want organic SEO world now. They just want bloody money through their adwords. Really sad Google- days are very near when facebook will cover the Google market. Example - they have started paid sponsored advertisement.

I'm watching all videos of Matt cutts from last 1 year. I do agree that spam is reduced by some extent. But his approach towards guest blogging is really not correct. He is just closing all link building techniques. People are finding it very hard - how they build link?? If day by day all looks spam in eye of matts. He should answer this clearly..

Matt cutts: today we took action on a large guest blog network. A reminder about the spam risks of guest blogging.
What do you mean by reminder? Myguestblog is not doing any spam activity.

    What's the point?

I own a high PR well trafficked guest blog. I have used myblogguest but there is nothing linking them to my site so all is still good at this end. I am ranking for guest blog related keywords so we will see what happens.

Stop following what that guy says! If you can get links from many high page rank blogs especially if they're in your niche, you'll rank and rank high. That is why blog networks are so effective. Google would find it very hard to rank sites without backlinks.

No, it's because she refused to force users of the site put nofollow on their guest post links. The intent was to exchange content for links... that's the problem. If the intent was to exchange content for referral traffic only everything would have been fine. Cutts even told her to put nofollow on, and she refused here:

Cutts speaks - you should listen. Yes yes, you're smarter than Cutts. He's a liar. Blah blah. Shut up. Don't be annoying.
