Advert blocking extensions are becoming increasingly popular on the Internet, and websites that rely on adverts to fund their existence react in different ways. Some have added a tip jar, started a Patreon account, or simply show a message asking visitors to disable the ad blocker. Google, it seems, is taking more drastic action on YouTube and bypassing AdBlock completely. It?s also punishing users for having it enabled.

Multiple reports have appeared on Twitter that even with AdBlock enabled, YouTube is now able to show video adverts. It gets worse, though, because Google has apparently disabled the skip option, meaning you are forced to watch the entire advert, which can be multiple minutes long. I guess they want to encourage you to disable AdBlock so the skip option reappears.

I wonder how they are doing it, fingers crossed other people will work out how to do it soon and release it in a wordpress plugin or something, I would even pay for a plug in that can disable adblock.

Unfortinatley i'm guessing its some google server magic where the ad is actually added to the start of the video to trick ad blocker or something :(. Still one step in the right direction :).

How an ad blocker works is that it blocks access to IP's that are not from the site you are viewing. If you embed the ad in the html and serve it from the local server rather than a foreign server, the ad will play.

The best way of dealing with this is change to a another page. While advertising drives and pays for the web, excessive advertising drives users away.

I was watching funny fails videos yesterday on youtube and there was this same ad of a product playing with each video and I could't skip it. I thought youtube has gone insane. Well, I was right actually.

Strange, im still able to skip all video ads without an issue, using latest version of google chrome.

Although the flash ads have been paused on the right, but this is another story, google blocking flash ads on all sites

Yes, there are some unskippable ads, but they are too short, So no issues at all.

Apparently, to skip ads you need to uninstall the youtube app in chrome
    https://www.reddit.com/r/news/comments/3k0wu1/google_starts_punishing_adblock_users_with/cuu135l

The double standard is funny though. They devalue web pages with video on autoplay, and those with too many ads because that is annoying for users. They talk all day how they want the best for their users.

    What has changed now?

Well as YouTube isn't profitable they need advertisement to survive. Sure, I use Adblocker as well but I think it is a great move by YouTube as otherwise we won't be able to watch free videos, whatsoever. (There is always Vimeo and Dailymotion but both of them aren't as good as YouTube in my opinion. If YouTube would go bankrupt the audience and creators of course adapt quickly).

I guess you should practice what you preach, but yeah, I am not a fan of advertisement either haha :)

Correct! From a visitors perspective I definitely don't like advertisement, but from my marketers point of view - I love advertisement.
