Google sends me a fixed amount of traffic regardless of ranking

I've been noticing a weird trend lately with my traffic from Google. I have about a dozen keywords that generate the majority of traffic for a site. 3 of these rank #1. Each time I have gained the #1 spot, the traffic for that post increases but decreases for everything else, even though no rank was lost for the others.

I'll use 3 keywords with their ranks as an example.
Keyword A : #3 (200-250 hits per day)
Keyword B : #1 (400-500)
Keyword C : #4 (100-200)

Traffic has been like this for months. I recently got a high authority backlink for keyword A which has it up to #1. This keyword is now getting 500-600 visitors per day. The problem is the other 2, and some other high keywords have all dropped in traffic but not rank.

SEMrush is tracking the keyword rank and nothing has gone down for these keywords yet the traffic has. What's weird is that it has gone down by the amount that Keyword A has increased by.

It feels like Google is allocated a set amount of traffic for my site per day and it's shared amongst the keywords. Any increase in rank just divides the share of traffic differently.

I've seen this a few times in the past. My total search engine traffic has not gone up much in a year. The only thing that changes is a small number of posts now dominate the traffic and other posts which still rank we'll get hardly any traffic.

You are likely worried about small fluctuations too much, get some more data and see if this is still an issue, I suspect not.

Google recently said they will only show one link per website in results, so if your keywords are similar then only one result will show. In the past all 3 posts could have shown

The keywords in question are definitely not related, so it shouldn't be this. It seems more than ranking fluctuations though.

The keyword that jumped to #1 went down to #2 today. The other 2 posts have now increased in traffic. It really seems like I'm getting a fixed amount of daily traffic here
