Anyone else noticed that Google has begun to stuff the same domain over and over again for certain search terms.
Looking for a golfing trip today, typed in "golf cancun" and got 3 pages of trip advisor. Nothing else. Including their "contact us" page and a "coming soon" page with just the words "coming soon".

What sort of shit is this?

Does Google think people want to be choked to death on one site? I want choice. I'm looking to compare, not get 35 URL's from inside the same site thrown back at me for these searches.
So did a few more searches
Anything local is now totally fecked both on my PC and searching through my main server (which is based in the US) These are commercial terms. Car Hire [location] enterprise dot co dot uk has 11 out of the top 15. Again completely superflous pages a map of the corner of Cornwall on a blank page FFS! Ranking ahead of Hertz and Euro car. Any sort of professional service, local amenity, niche product..YOu're getting "legal disclaimer" and "meet our team" and "coming soon" for the same site ranking down 2/3rds of the first page.

This has been going on for about 3-4 weeks now. It's a clusterfuck
And people say Google employ bright people. You must be frikking joking.

Not that I'm complaining on a personal level. A couple of my keywords for products are now 17 of the top 20 search results. But that's no way to treat your users Google. It's messed up - so roll back and try again. 3 weeks is too long for this mess to go on. Maybe you would prefer it if we all gave Bing a try eh? Cause more of this and that'e where people will go for proper choice and information.

You aint the only one with this issue.
I saw the same thing when I was looking for a local zoo on my trip.
Worse part is that the zoo holding almost all the spots on the first page was like 500 miles away from my location...lol

Yeah its getting ridiculous. I think Google will be making some major changes soon... that might sort out all of this shit.

Even the whole deal with penguin is fairly crazy.

Google is starting to kill what brought them to life in the first place. I use bing now and to be honest, it's not half bad.

This was discussed in another thread a few weeks ago. Funny thing is, is that the search results tend to differ whether you're logged in or out of google. I noticed this with two pages of gumtree links, filling page 2 and 3 of google on a keyword I was researching when I was logged in, but not when I was logged out by using IE on its private browsing setting.

While i think the majority of the shit google does is only really noticed by us lot, its rubbish like this that the general public will start to get pissed about.

Lol - so they are giving the worse results to their own members.
It can't possibly have any commercial benefit to Google to do this - it must be a mistake.
Which begs the question "How come they have let it go on for so long"?

I noticed it for the first time over a month ago. They have done several quite large updates in that time - and not touched this clusterfuck.
They casue it overnight with a shuffle..so change.

The feeling I get is that G is trying to be so clever and subtle with their results that it's beyond the comprehension of even a team of their smartest (sic) techs to work out the consequences of their actions.

"What if we make "x = 0.1134 instead of 0.1133 in thgis part of the equation Bruce"

Honest answer seems to be "Locally, in this part of the equation - this and that, but overall... in the whole SERPs big picture... I haven't got a ficking clue - do it and let's see what happens"
As someone with big (or growing) site I'm loving this, getting 8 URL's on page one rather than one, but it is a total screwing mess, and that chubby drone Matt Cutts seems oblivious (and like the bullet dodging, pie eating buffoon we have always known him to be) "I've passed it onto the team responsible for that part of the algorithm" he says.

Oh - so MC - what part of the algorithm is that?
Could it be the part that takes the list of URL's and displays them in an appropriate order based on a user search query...THAT part of the algorithm.

Ok, well as long as you're sure that's nothing to do with you then Matt - we can sleep easy.

    yes.

is there anywhere we can report this like on google groups or somewhere else? it's ridiculous when one site is hogging 25 of the first 30 results!

There's a link at the bottom of each search results page that says "Give us feedback" which can be clicked on the bring up a lame multiple choice form for search quality feedback. Using this option allows webmasters/users the option to vent in a way that benefits Google as the feedback is hidden from the public.

Personally, it's better to embarrass them in a public form, with screen shots, so others can comment on what you are seeing. Although most people that frequent Google's webmaster forum on crawling, indexing and ranking have their heads so far up Matt Cutt's ass that they have intestines hanging around their chins, it is still a good place to show the world the shit Google is producing.

A few days back I saw a domain with 7 ranked pages in a row. It's garbage if you ask me. I have some sites ranking well that are benefiting from domain crowding too, but such lack of diversity is horrible for end users.

Hopefully some users will defect to Bing, but people are creatures of habit and it would be hard for Google to screw things up so badly that a large segment of their users leave. It would be nice though. :)

I hadn't really noticed this until I just checked an old keyword I used to rank on.

1 website controls 9/10 results on Page 2... Lol wtf?

Made a vid that shows this works with many searches whether you are logged into Google account or not.
I'll whack it on youtube tomorrow.

One thing that I have noticed a lot lately is Google promoting pages with rich snippets. http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=99170

Any site that has rich snippets is going to get preferential treatment it looks like. Makes sense, if it is a review site or a travel site. However, it doesn't make ANY sense at all that they would not offer any "diversity" in their results like they claim they do.

    It happens because this goo.gl/2qhgh

I think it will settle down in a week or two as their engine have to sort down their database with less no of +1 results.

They started the game, now they own their name.
