I think you are talking about the knowledge graph results, like a search result in a box with a longer snippet above #1. They exist for over 2 years already, like the "People also ask" results (search for "car", "arthritis" or "telescope" for example) powered by the knowledge graph. So, not new, but these "special results" mostly appear for shorttails, famous people, company names, movies, books, etc.
Getting your site into the knowledge graph requires a lot of trust, an established site. Structured data markup also helps a little, as well as being linked from Wikipedia.
Bottom line: There is nothing that guarantees being included, it boils down to being an authority.
