I recall reading a thread here recently that google can do this to our sites now. I just checked this morning, and my meta title has been changed , and my meta description is gone!

WTF google, my traffic has dropped by about 75%

    What can I do?

As far as i know, Google can not touch your meta description or title on your site or change anything on your site at all, that would be highly illegal. Maybe they have stopped there SE from showing your meta description? That might be an option, never heard of it though.

You´re right there! Google cannot access your files and change meta data. It only can change the way it gives back the metadescription given by you, but I doubt they´ll change that. Why should they?

It's true. They just select a snippet of text from the page if they feel it better represents your site than your description.

I think it comes down to trust. Right around the time they made this change they also started to show those rating stars in SERPs. As far as I know that is based on how trusted a site is. So that may be the answer to your question.

You can try to align more your description and your actual site content.

if it helps my site still retained it's sitelinks, not sure if that shows any trust though.
