I'm ranking on page 1 for a lot of keywords on my website (in my articles), but not the ones I want (as it is very competitive as they are a bunch of aged domains that dominate this field).

Right now I'm around the bottom of Page 1, sometimes second to last or third to last. I get traffic, not not as much as #1.

So my question is, I just need to build backlinks to gain #1? The top sites have around 3,000+ worth of backlinks.

I still have a large amount of backlinks that didn't show up on yahoo yet, mainly profile blast from xrumer. Blogs normally get discovered in a week for me. Once it comes it, I'm set?

It is not just a numbers game. While profile links can be pretty effective especially for low to moderate competition keywords you should be building other types of links as well. Even considering just profile links xrumer blasts are not the highest quality as a general rule, you need to check and make sure that you are getting enough links from higher PR sites.

Look at the top sites you are targeting and see what types of links they have, that will give you a good indicator of the quality of links you are going to need to beat them.

You may also want to double check your onpage/onsite seo. Internal linkage, html tag usage and word occurrences may need improvement.

What if all the sites that I'm going against is white hat, how would I approach it then?
