its diffcult to define the good content, coz there r many kind of content, if your content is pitures or music or videos etc...

Whether or not PR is important doesn't really matter as it is out of your control in the short term. If you're willing to dedicate x amount of time to a given site then it's going to be better to split your time between content/links rather than 90/10 towards one.

I would say content then backlinks, without the content you have no reason to keep them at your site, but then I suppose without the backlinks you wouldn't have anybody to keep on your site, and last but not least your pr rating comes in to show how good your site is, and personally this is especially good if you want to flip and sell your site.

Backlinks. Use enough, and they can catapult a single paragraph of poorly written affiliate scraped content onto page 1.

Backlinks first, then content, PR not important unless you're looking to flip a site

Do this - search google for "click here" the find the phrase "click here" on that page, you won't, they are not on that page, it's backlinks

    Quality One Way Back Links!

You can have a four page corporate site (home page, about me, privacy & service/products) and rank in number one position beating all the content sites if you have more back links. This is not always what surfers wants, but google gives extreme importance to back links.

Naturally good content will get you god back links. But it is really not important. You can have a whole site designed in flash where google can't find any text and still rank high if you have more number of quality backlinks than your competition.

The most important factor of all is the STRENGTH of the competition for the keyword for which you want to rank for. The strength of a web page for a specific keyword is a combination of the PR of the page, the on-page optimization for the targeted keyword, and the backlink anchortext quantity and quality. Quantity is obvious -- the more backlinks you have with the targeted keyword in the anchor text the better. The quality is a bit more complicated, it takes into account the PR of the site on which the link appears, how well the topic of the website matches the top of YOUR website, how well the topic of the page on which the link appears matches the page to which the link points, and a variety of other factors.

In general, if you want position #1 for a keyword, and you do research and find that the page currently in that position has PR3 and 100 backlinks with anchortext that has the keyword in, then to unseat them your page probably needs to be PR4 and have 150 or more backlinks with the keyword-rich anchortext. That's by way of an example, this is all an arcane guessing game since google isn't telling us exactly how they decide who appears in position #1 for any keyword.

All of them are important and needed in marketing and they have their own use.The most important for me is the backlink.why?because it is the final among the three. If you get backlinks, that means your content and page rank is good.

i also wonder if traffic plays a significant but unspoken role in overall ranking.

i have been playing with sites in the same niche and forcing traffic to one and not the other and found that the one with traffic climbed faster.

i havent done enough testing though to determine if this is just an anomaly or not.

Man, you have over over 10 posts saying this exact same thing.

Not to mention your 6 "off to work on it!" posts.

If there was a king of building posts counts, I'd nominate you.

    Now to the original question....

    I say content and backlinks.

If you are good at both, your PR will follow.
