    Hello everyone,

Here I come with a question in regards of Google Places.

    Plain and straight forward:
Why does Google search show the "places" first for some keywords while it shows the "places" after a few organic results for other keywords?

    For example:
dentists london - here you will see how a few websites appear in the organic results on top of "google places"
dentists lancaster - here you will see how NO websites appear in the organic results on top of "google places"

This has been driving me crazy for a while, so I would really appreciate if someone could illuminate the way

    Thanks in advance!

I wonder the same thing, what triggers this.
Google has implemented a local "carousel" review listing for restaurants, bars or hotels, that positions google places at the top of the page.
Not sure if or when this will be implemented for other local businesses.

Google Place are better to get rank in Google result pages. Google display Local pages on its first result page so when your site get index in Google Place, it can be shown on first page in Google Local results.

so they change up the local rankings almost daily now,,, you have the blended, 7pack, and everything in between... local seo is it's own beast and i recomend a few people to keep in touch with real answers.. one person/program is places scout, it's a must have and for the price it's a steal. And Broland, he is a awesome citation maker provider, as the many other ones you can find here. Good citations and knowing what triggers the 7pack result is a good place to start.

As long as you are a single business trying to advertise. The minute you want to have a listing website you will have no fucking chance of competing against google.

This is an issue that changes all the time. The format, display and "amount" that Google places takes up changes almost every 6 weeks or so.
Guessing they are testing a lot of different ideas.
Always best to register your business with them. Also use Google map in your website to confirm it (the API will give you the code to cut and paste in)

Getting around this? There isn't a way I've come across.

    Thanks for the answer.
My question was more focused towards ranking higher than "places" organically, but I imagine it being the same thing.
