My new business has finally been registered in California (LLC), and back in early April I setup Google Places for my new company. After 3 weeks I received the postcard, and activated the account. From May 3rd to now it shows the account as "active" but is listed no where and it doesn't show any impressions/actions.

Curious... how long was it until you started to see impressions or atleast know for a fact it's active? Just seems like (nearly a month of it being activated) it is taking a very long time.

Where by direct search or in the 7 box?
If your business is anything to do with marketing you won't get in the 7 box for
love nor money, google don't like competition. I wish I could find the list of business
    types that don't show.
I can find my company by searching google places with my company name but
no way does it show up for my keywords even though I rank business in local search as part
    of my business.
It was there 15 mins after phone verification.

Geez... I type in the company name along with location and nothing comes up. I know it's some-what active, as I can go to the actual page... but it never shows up organically... a bit odd.

The way to find it is query your exact business title you used in your places listing near your zip code. So it would look something like this:

    123 Plumbing Inc near 87654

Or you can also try your business title with phone number you used as well.

I have found that Google Places in large markets will "sandbox" your listing for anywhere from 30-90 days depending on the competition. It also depends on whether google is showing 7 box results in your niche and city or universal search. You'll want to optimize for both. 7 box is more focused on Places listing optimization and citations while universal search is SEO heavy.

Once you start seeing stats in your dashboard is usually when you're officially showing. Hope that helps.

I have also found that recently Places has started showing SEO related phrases on page 1 of universal search as well. Problem is that it is for terms that are not highly searched but maybe it's G's way of starting to trust the SEO, marketing, and web design markets again with local business listings, we shall see. Once clicked over into "places search" I am number 1 for my top 5 local searches in a competitive local market.

We are also approaching over 1000 A-C listings with our clients as well. GP is a bitch and can be very frustrating to work with. The hardest part is that IMHO it's twice as hard, time consuming, and requires much more knowledge and troubleshooting than standard SEO especially in a competitive local market YET clients will still pay more for standard organic SEO than they will for competitive G places which takes SEO, reputation management, citation building, and sometimes alot of troubleshooting.

Does anyone know if there is a way around the whole postcard verification so that i can somehow recieve the phone opition instead? I know theres a way, people are doing it and new listings with non-exisiting physical locations are showing up in the maps..
any help/recommendations will be greatly appreciated :)
