I have a site where a product is sold. If a visitor decides to leave and hit X (close) there is a javascript showing a "WAIT! 50% discount!!".

Anyone know if this will be penalized by Google and affect rankings?

Never heard that and I have used a similar script with no discernible negative ranking results to my own web site. Other factors, including authority weigh more heavily with Panda.

I have never heard it either. I'm just a bit sad since the site was ranked on page 1 for an heavy keyword and is now drifting between page 2 and 3.... but I guess I just have to work on getting more quality backlinks :)

Well, the right question to ask is what is your competition up to as well? Is it backlinks, articles or social networking that they have been adding to the mix?
