I don't think that they will ever treat all equally.
    I guess it's just temporary...

Big companies and online stores are spending huge funds on adwords...and I'm 100% that google put some manual filters on their ranking.

Honestly, if I were BBC, i'd say, F Google and start my own. This company can't surely be an overlord to everyone. Someone someday just has to take a stand.

Would they really honestly care? I very much doubt they're losing traffic; they don't exactly need long-tail rankings do they!? I suspect they just asked for clarification so they know what's going on, and are seen to care.

Ridiculous. The BBC is a government/Public funded organisation. They dont make sales, they don't sell anything. They don't need PageRank, any links they create is through content for traffic.

As with all big companies/orginisations that get slapped by Google they will get special attention, any lost rankings will return within the month no problem.

At some point there will be a backlash from such a company. Imagine the BBC decided they will run this story across their whole network and report on it on TV. The BBC is known to be political and if they wanted, they could run slanted anti-Google stories, destroying Google's rep. It might not destroy Google, but it would damage them.

    I can only dream.

We were in competition with the BBC for a highly searched keyword.
They were #1 and we were #3. In April last year they got their first penalty and they were gone for 6 months+ and then came back to the first position.
So yes Google gives large companies penalties too.

This is theater. Notice they didn't go after a big FOR profit corporation or hurt its profit bottom line, they just hammered a safe non-profit. Google penalizes a high visibility target like BBC in order to say "see, we do go after the big boys too" for the next 10 years. G is just trying to shut up its critics, who have been exposing its double standards.

If true then there goes the whole "authority site is safe" argument.

Also BBC has advertisers who I am sure would not be happy with a traffic decrease.
