Google has confirmed with us that on Thursday, September 27th, they released a Panda algorithm update - this would be the 20th Panda update and thus we are naming it Panda 20. This is a fairly major Panda update that impacts 2.4% of English search queries and is still rolling out.

Late Friday afternoon, Google announced a exact match domain update that removed the chances of a low-quality exact match domain from ranking well in Google. But over the weekend, many non-exact match domain site owners noticed their rankings dropped as well. What was it?

Google confirmed that they pushed out a new Panda algorithm update that isn't just a data refresh but an algorithm update. Google told us this "affects about 2.4% of English queries to a degree that a regular user might notice."

There is more to come with this update, where Google promises to roll out more to this Panda algorithm update over the next 3-4 days. Here is the comment Google's Matt Cutts sent us after asking about this update:

Google began rolling out a new update of Panda on Thursday, 9/27. This is actually a Panda algorithm update, not just a data update. A lot of the most-visible differences went live Thursday 9/27, but the full rollout is baking into our index and that process will continue for another 3-4 days or so. This update affects about 2.4% of English queries to a degree that a regular user might notice, with a smaller impact in other languages (0.5% in French and Spanish, for example).

Im having a really hard time seeing how this only affected about 2.4% of English queries. It seems to be far more widespread than that judging by the reaction I am seeing and the sites that have been hammered across all niches. Not just thin sites that we based around purely an EMD either...

Wow not sure how I missed this thanks for the heads up.

I'm sure that a lot of the people that think they were hit because of a low quality EMD were actually hit due to Panda. The majority of my sites seem to have survived both but I do think one of them could of being hit due to this.

Time to get my hands dirteh!

They release two updates close to each other in order to fool blackhatters.

This is why we have so many "I was hit by the EMD update but i dont have an EMD!" and it stops us from identifying what the EMD update targets because you don't know if a site was hit by Panda of EMD update.

My group of sites have been more successful since Panda and Penguin because those updates were not meant to get rid of SEOs. They were meant to get rid of BAD SEOs and bad sites.

2 of my sites were slapped. One site was my most legit ever. No back links, pure info on a completely unsaturated niche. It was KW slightly stuffed, but thats it. Absolutely no black hat stuff whatsoever. It was a great white hat site that had a 14% bounce rate and gave users exactly what they were searching for. Im fucking pissed.

Keyword stuffed and whitehat backlink profile is Panda, an on-page penalty. Sort your on-page, wait two months and you should be fine.

So far so good, all my sites stayed the same or moved up. Didn't lose one with the EMD or Panda update. Whats crazy is that a lot ARE EMD. What i think the key is though that I dont overdo it with SEO. I'm not even talking about the backlinks either but hte onsite stuff. I think that Google was targeting overly optimized EMDs in the recent update.

I still use amazing link services though that blend in unoptimized anchor text links which is important. Also the key is to linkbuild for every URL on your site, even if you aren't trying to get it to rank for something. Nothing is more fishy than a site which only the homepage gets backlinks with the keyword.

If you ask me, there probably wasn't ever an EMD update, just the panda that affected some people's EMD's. It's just misinformation.

Yup, used as a deterrent to prevent people from buying them and trying to rank them. All about creating fear and confusion.

This shit has nuked most sites i own, quality sites with 1000's of facebook shares, the fucking nerds at Google and the immigrants have this virtual wrecking ball.
