I have been working on this one specific keyword for about a month now just to get it 18 today and I was pumped. It wasn't the best rank but it was pretty good for me. Anyway, a couple hours later I dropped down to 35! :(

Do you think this just temporary? I heard the term "sand box" but not sure what that means, but I also heard sometimes websites drop and then make huge jumps to the first page.

Can anyone provide any insight on this?

Ok so, PageRank is a different term. The term you are looking for is "Sudden Drop in Serps".
18-35 is normal change. We call this the "google dance" When your site is newer, you wil usually get ranked pretty high in google, but then after 1 week/1 month/2 months, Google can randomly drop you back down. This is based on things such as: Bounce rate in current position, clicks per impression in your current position, new competition, changes in content, new link to your site being indexed.

Until you have been at a current rank for 6 months or more, you can never be 100% sure where google thinks you belong.

That was a really informative response. Thank you for the clarification on the term as well. So it could randomly put me back up in the ranks too right?

It's a Google dance. Give it some time to calculate your rank. Sandbox means you can't find your site anymore. Since you can still see your site it's not sandboxed. Also what you are talking about isn't pagerank it is SERP.

Yes! To be honest, you can wake up and see yourself at number 8 and then next day you are 48. With certain keywords, it will take a long time to have a "stable" position. Just keep watching it, and if you don't see yourself go back up in the ranks, make a small change in your site and then watch it for 1 week.

Your thread title is misleading. Google pagerank is for domains, not for keywords. :liar:

There are also times when google will bump your site higher then it should be. Had it happen on quite a few of my newer sites (less then 6 months old from top 200 to top 20) in the past few months.

Honestly though, Kickflip summed it perfectly with this statement:

My fault, I promise I won't make that mistake again! haha.

Also, the site I own/operate is for a underground rapper. I have 56% bounce rate. Do you think that is too high? The problem is that most people come on and check to see if I posted anything new and then dip, so it makes sense that I would have a higher bounce rate.

56% aint really that bad for a music related site. Many of my sites have closer to 85% bounce rate, now THAT is bad. You can't really help your bounce rate without drastically changing your site so I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

I was thinking about taking a tactic from thisis50.com
where they have a screen shot of the video and you can only play the video if you click the image or the full post.

What are your feelings on this and will it really effect how I rank?

Everything effects how you rank. Think more about your user experience. If you think it makes your site better for visitors, go for it. If not, then I don't recommend it.

Google PR plays a very minor role as Ranking factor :) I think there are many other elements that you don't figure out yet influenced your site's SERP. Did you make any changes to your site recently?

I've made some changes today. I migrated from All-In-One SEO to Plantinum SEO and some options along with that. I also added a privacy policy. I submitted to some RSS, made some autoapprove scrapebox comments, and submitted to some directories.
