so I have always suspected and heard that click through rate matters I've seen some case studies of some companies actually driving traffic to click on certain search links stay on the page and not bounce. This charts by word stream confirms some of the suspicions that when all things are equal if you have two very similar results in the search engines Google slowly begins to start collecting data on click through rates and optimizing their results dependent on which results are getting clicked on the most. This fact tells me that number one your title and meta-description are very important these days because they are the thing that people first see and use to get excited about your content so a plug-in like yoast or all in one seo where you can change the title and meta-description is essential as well as optimizing these for the user.

Looks like machine learning is getting smarter and though links are still going to be the main factor looks like getting to number one is becoming a little more complex than blasting links. yyou should optimize your titles for things people will want to click on and as always have very good content.

Google swears CTR isn't a factor. John Mueller once implied the repeat visitation was. If true and with natural human traffic then CTR would correlate without being causal. All of my attempts at making a CTR bot that improves ratings have failed. All the studies that I know of that say CTR is a factor crowd sourced human clicks. I think the problem with my bots was deleting the cookies and changing IPs aggressively... such a CTR bot would produce the minimum possible repeat visitation score.

Just my theory on what is going on... I want to find the time to make a repeat visitation bot that looks like lots of repeat visitors.

this is true it might be the causation correlation just that the better optimized title naturally gets more links overall and moves up and rankings regardless of the CTR. However if this was true some of the other case studies I've read out there would not take for instance this site as an example.

they've actually done the exact test you're talking about and found they could jumper results from the fourth position to the first almost immediately. They sell click through rate with guarantees so there must be something to it. Also in an article earlier this morning I was reading I forgot which one it was but a Google executive said that the algorithms become so complex and so specialized that even a lot of the engineers can answer most of the questions or don't even know exactly what's going on with it.
